What I find interesting is not that there is Christian imagery, but that the only specific Christian imagery is the story of Cain and Abel. Much of the story involves relating the tales of various heroes and how their virtues relate to Beowulf but nothing from the New Testament or Christ is mentioned in the story only Cain and Abel. This is done specifically to point out who bad kin slaying is. It is very telling how strongly the story of Cain and Abel resonated with this culture and thus is the only specific Christian theme that is included in this story. Another telling part of the culture is how generosity is considered the metric which a ruler is measured by. Hrothgar and Beowulf are considered good kings because they were so generous. Strength and bravery are important traits of a hero, but giving gifts is what is important for a ruler. This relates to fealty and feudal culture but it also shows how Grendel and the dragon are foils to Hrothgar and Beowulf. Grendel and his mother have a hall with fabulous treasures that they selfishly keep all for themselves and Hrothgar specifically builds a hall for the benefit of his people. The dragon epitomizes greed and his rampage across the country because one of his treasures is stolen contrasts with how easily Beowulf gave up to his king and queen the best treasures Hrothgar gave him when he returned home.
