I was struck by the discussion of dead women not disappointing you in this episode. My wife died eleven years ago (not this very night...) unexpectedly after a short illness. Our marriage was in a very happy period after several difficult years. That joy of really sorting a problem. Anyway, one of the comforts in my grieving process was I could never disappoint her and she was unable to change her mind about loving me. Not my last thoughts on the subject, but your comments rhymed with my experience.

I got the impression that the plants/fungi were terraforming the atmosphere of the house along with Usher and his sister, until finally the tarn consumed everyone except the narrator
