So, after listening to this and the following episode, I am convinced the protagonist was scared for nothing. He went mad, and I imagine a circle of Dagonlings standing around him, arguing over what to do with him. Eventually they, like the Pecks in Willow, decide to return him to his own kind, so they get him back to his boat and tow it to a shipping lane to be found.
