Recently I undertook a research that has changed the way I approach my own work and by extension how I teach drawing.

In a series I am going to share with you what I have learned through 3 extensive critique sessions with an artist who studied and taught at the Repin Academy in St. Petersburg.

Here is what you will find:

  • Composition- the straw that stirs the drink, so to speak.
  • Artistic Selection- what you can change about what you see and how.
  • The Focal Point- how to choose and emphasize the key feature of your image.
  • Silhouettes and Framing- what makes shapes stand out or fade away.

I am really excited to share this course with you all. I believe the concepts and techniques you learn will truly change the way that you draw.

I'm really excited about this! I lived in Russia in the early nineties and became a huge admirer of Illya Repin and the other "Peredvizhniki" as he and his contemporaries were known. Unfortunately, that was before the age of the internet and I was never able to take any art courses there. It will be so interesting to take this journey with you!
