The complexity of the skull can make it difficult to simplify for the purpose of blocking in.

In this video, we will explore how a simplified block in drawing template can help you understand the anatomy of the human skull better. By breaking down the skull's complex shapes into simple, geometric forms, you will be able to establish the proportions and symmetry of the head more easily.

We will begin by examining the different parts of the skull and then demonstrate how you can use the simplified block in drawing template to break down the skull's features into basic shapes, making it easier to draw from different angles and perspectives.

The next lesson after this one will be the 1st practical section of the course. Meaning that we will begin assimilating this info through drawing... Can't wait!

This is really great! I am trying to reconcile the loomis head and the rule of thirds with the anatomy you are demonstrating based on the zygomatic bone. I see that you guesstimate where that is but can you or should you not relate it to the other measurements? If I am wrong on the height of it than all the beautiful top and bottom planes of the face will be wrong.

For me, I prefer to locate it in relationship to the particular subject. This way I always have room for individual variation. Also If I am 100% honest I find the rule of thirds to be a less than perfect way to account for proportion in foreshortened poses. It’s cool, but I don’t rely on it (just my opinion/practice).

Wow!! So clear, I can “see” now.
