In this real time lesson we are going to go through every mark and every decision in the process of making a proper transfer drawing. Run time is about 3 hours and 40 mins.

Cast painting is the lesson that marks the transition from a students education in drawing to the beginning of their painting career.

In part 1 you are going to learn about transfer drawing. A preparatory stage from which you will gain some knowledge about the structure of your subject while establishing the parameters of your underpainting block in.

You have the most flexible and yet detailed block-ins, both from a structural and visual viewpoint that I have ever seen, bar none. Your explanations are the most detailed and sensible as well.

Hello Stephen - have you ever (after transfer onto linen canvas, gone in and worked more detail into the transferred drawing? eg. I do an accurate drawing transfer- then go in and work up the values on the drawing in more elaborate detail - then fix the drawing (spectrafix) and then tone..etc.?

I have done this but only when painting on paper. Made a full value drawing and then sealed it with PVA glue before painting onto it. Was a very satisfying process.
