How To Repurpose A Used Canvas (Patreon)
Content
Sometimes I will start a painting and after some reflection decide that I don't want to move forward with it after all. The underpainting here is thin and has been well dried for a month or so. The canvas its-self is a very fine and expensive lead oil ground portrait linen- which is why I want to save it.
This is what I do:
1️⃣ Start with some white and raw umber.
2️⃣ Mix to desired value.
3️⃣ Spread over the canvas with a palette knife and then riling it in with a sturdy paper towel.
4️⃣ I only recommend this for a canvas that has an underpainting/first pass on it. Too many paint layers and it could get a bit risky.
The materials I use in this video are: titanium white, raw umber, cold pressed linseed oil, teardrop shaped palette knife, 1 old canvas made with beautiful lead oil primed linen, paper towels, & 1 nitrile glove.
