This is the 1st of 2 parts and it goes through the tools and concepts I am using in the final stage of this project. My paper here is Stonehenge I am drawing with graphite pencils.

This is the refined edition of Part 1(meaning that the work time is sped up and the informational sections are in real time).

Curious to hear your thoughts about using a camera lucida for the initial measurement taking?

There is a company that makes them, sent me one to get my take on it. My take, I couldn't practically figure out how to use it. I get how it works, but it is so unwieldy there was no way that I could integrate it into my workflow. If you like to use one, use it. If you don't, then don't. There is no need for ruling out this or that tool- I've. seen people learn to draw many different ways.

Thank you for your thoughts. I have used one but without the structural and tonal knowledge I'm gaining through your work here it was of limited value as I still couldn't simplify what I was seeing.

Could you provide a link to the 1" Cradle panel? I am new to stretching paper and a bit confused. Would you suggest the stonehenge paper stretched with 1" cradle as well for painting surfaces?

Hi Marissa, there are a lot of different painting surfaces that are good. If you are going to draw and seal and then paint- yes I would suggest stretched paper.
