The Horehound is part of a host of hard candies like that in various weird flavors. Smarties are eaten one at a time. Dad's Root Beer Barrels were great!

I was surprised they liked American Smarties because I always found them forgettable. And I detest root beer in all forms so I feel quite vindicated with the reactions. Never had the nerve to try Circus Peanuts because they look vile to me.
