Heydalee hodalee.

Here's this thing! An hour and some change of me talking about design changes I would make, primarily in regards to the newly re-uploaded Anime Campaign: Episode 2. Most of this is about map and encounter design.

NOTE: The first half of this audio is about changes I would make as a GM, but the second half focuses on player etiquette. There are a few things the players did in these two adventures that I'd like to use as teachable moments for TTRPG players in general, and in order to do that I end up critiquing their performances a bit. I know that type of thing makes certain listeners uncomfortable, so here's your warning up front. I like to think that my friends (who I love and still play TTRPGs with) would be cool with me needling their old performances from 7+ years ago in the same way that I'm ok critiquing my bad GMing from this era. There are some really uncool moments I cut out of the edited video that I'm going to talk about in here because they make for good lessons.

For those interested in the actual TTRPG mechanics of the characters, I've included their original character sheets along with some design commentary and three new example character sheets from the upcoming TTRPG system remake. You can check that out here!

I was very confused for a second because ep2 had not been uploaded just yet so I thought I was crazy

I like the way the audio just stops, lol

Do you have any additional advice for aiding players who roll impossibly low? Like a guideline for the kind of way you can help them without making them feel like you’re purposely ignoring dice rolls.

The owner of a DnD server i'm in, gave me, the person, the lucky feat, so no matter which game i'm in, i get 3 re-rolls per session, because my luck is just that bad, so maybe you could do/ask for that

The only, ONLY courtesy I will give to the "secret plan" mindset is that, as you kinda hit on, a lot of older TTRPGs had a significant Player vs. GM mentality, where players telling the GM their plan was a sure-fire way to ensure the GM ruined it. Which is! Bad! Modern TTRPG playstyles lean a LOT more into the cooperative storytelling, rule of cool style of gameplay, but it took a while for that concept to really be accepted by the wider player-base. Still an INSANELY bad mindset to have in a primarily co-op game, but I can understand why a player from 7+ years ago would have that misunderstanding.

It's really nice to hear a long-deserved defense of Plaster!

I don't think anyone listening to this should go badmouth anybody about 7+ years ago, but I do think it'd be nice for Plaster at least to know she was appreciated.

I'm a bit confused on the difference between a passive and a perk, can anyone understand it and explain it for me?

If I recall correctly one is made from the start and is set, the other players typically pick one of three like with starting abilities. after that they're functionally the same

Easy way to fix Meryl sucking: just make her Paramedic Kobeni

Quinton and Quinoa were my favorite characters in this episode and I thought Plaster's antics were hilarious. I honestly wish a version of these two show up somewhere in Epithet Erased, I thought they were that good.

this is rough to listen to. i mean *I* liked it but when i first heard the warning i thought "who would need a warning for this" and like now... yeah i get it. its so viscerally uncomfy hearing jello correctly insulting his friends for an hour, very mad at them, and then the heartwrenching description of plaster's sadness. would not recommend to most people.
