Released in 1975, Dog Day Afternoon was based on the true story of a botched bank heist in Brooklyn in 1972. The film earned six Academy Awards and won for Best Original Screenplay (Frank Pierson). Starring two of our favorite actors, Al Pacino and John Cazale, as well as Charles Durning, Chris Sarandon, Carol Kane and Lance Henriksen - and helmed by one of our favorite directors, the prolific Sidney Lumet.
