I decided to make this a Patreon exclusive cos chiiiiileee that setlist was a HARD miss for me.

SOOO many moments they missed that I would've LOVED to see because they have so many "velvet" moments lool.

Would've LOVED Hey Girl, Smoky Heart & Before U go, Whatever they say or something but nope they picked pretty much everything I don't enjoy musically lol.

I'm super hesitant to do a discography discovery now unless there's some albums that lean less on the edm sound then I'm open ears otherwise, enjoy!

For all albums that had 5 members, I don’t recall any of them being edm heavy or having any edm at all. From my memory most of it was ballads or rnb songs. Maybe one or two songs from the mirotic album had some electronic music but that’s all i can remember.

Ashley

They have alot albums that lean less on the edm side. They have alot of ballads and rnb songs.

This is Roz!! I need to come back to this later bc of work lolol BUT now that you mentioned some of the songs you wanted to see in the caption, I agree!!! Hey Girl and Smoky Heart are such deep cuts ugh especially Hey Girl, I love that song so much. My suspicion for the older songs is that they didn't re-record all of them, so they're limited to what they did re-record as 2. I knew it wasn't very possible but I was trying to hear if they left any traces of the old members in the backtrack but no dice 😔 anyways I'm very excited to watch this during my lunch break lmaoo

abt that comment at how different idols these days sing compared to 2nd gen suju ryeowook recently did some show on yt in which he was reacting to sm 3/4/5th gen main vocalists (nct, aespa, riize) and he was explaining the difference between vocal coaching, singing and even booth directing across the generations (at least in sm) i found his point of view interesting and thought you might as well want to check it out

Koko3op

HAHA HEY FRIEND!! Yeahh that makes a lot of sense I guess. A shame! I LOVE those deep cuts so much

zuzi

im glad, will be looking forward to it then !

One thing they did not disappoint with the vocals and Max sounding the best he ever sound and yes they did sing the other member part and I completely agree with about yunho voice he sound amazing when he is in his low cause when they debuted he didn’t sound like this but since they lost 3 members I guess that was when he wanted to stand out more since he is with freaking changmin but I could be wrong 😭

Maya

maybe not even to stand out more but be able to cover more parts. Max alone won't be singing for three other people.

ok I'm back lmaooo honestly we already talked about some of my other thoughts and I could go on forever honestly but yeah this set list was def more for the nostalgia than anything. Kind of like how you said SHINee is so impressive for carrying the way they have been minus 2 main vocals, I feel similarly about Homin bc Jaejoong & Junsu carried so many of the melodies and harmonies, but for what Homin has been able to do as the two of them is pretty good. I wonder sometimes if the two of them referenced any of the techniques used by the other members when they re-recorded the old songs, because sometimes I think I hear them trying to emulate the old members but idk if that's also just the general SM training they had. I definitely think a good chunk of their discography might not be for you, but I'll look through the songs and let you know if there's anything you might enjoy. ALSOOOOO Tonight better have sounded familiar because I've sent it to you LMFAO. Its that song that I said walked so NCT U From Home could run. Both of those songs are such typical SM-style ballads lol

Elle

As a long time fan, I actually enjoyed the set list. 😅 To be fair, I'm not the biggest fan of their discography; it was just nice going down memory lane with them. The only song they could've done without was that summer song and I totally agree they should've included Before U Go. I was also hoping for Wrong Number and Spellbound, but was pleasantly surprised that they included Love Line! That was the song I didn't think would make the cut, but did, lol!

You really need to react to Love In The Ice Live Performance Tokyo Dome ! It’s such a beautiful performance ! Tvxq 5 aces All of their voices matches eachother

mist

I find myself revisiting a lot of their older albums more than the newer duo ones. I wish they would do Million Men but that's never gonna happen lol

Koko3op

Ahhhhh yess cos I noticed I have tonight saved after! And yeah they probably did emulate the other members vocal parts for sure probably out of habit too!

Jessica Liu

Yes, I would love to see you react to Tonight!! One of the songs I think you will really enjoy and one of their most vocally impressive. I'm interested to hear your assessment of Junsu/Jaejoong bc they were considered the #1 and #2 vocalists but I feel like Changmin has better technique. Especially now since he stayed with SM and kept making music/training. Junsu & Jaejoong were more powerful belters and amazing at conveying emotion. Love in the Ice & Bolero are some of their iconic power ballads. I'd recommend watching their live performances because they are truly better than their recordings.

The setlist, at least for the ot5 tracks, were definitely chosen for nostalgia. i'm not too familiar with their current songs but i agree i wish we got more rnb tracks or atleast before u go. I wouldn't rule out their disc because they definitely have more rnb songs, even some interesting acapella ver of their tracks in their old albums. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on them performing as a 5. Your point about Yunho is interesting because I've noticed it too, he sings very nasally and sometimes looks like he's unsure about the notes he's about to hit. Might be having to jump from the role of the "bass" in the group to now picking up parts two of their main vocalists owned.

TVXQ has passed 20th anniversary and Yunho Changmin have continued to connect their history. It was nice to show to fans a lot of old music. Of course, there are definitely many other songs, but since they have a long history, there were so many songs to show, and I think the set list was limited because they had to sing songs from new album. I think you can share your honest review on YouTube or feedback what you wanted from them. + I also looooove 이만가 (Korean fans call it like this, BUG) ++ Sorry for my poor English. 카시오페아, 엔시티즌으로 언제나 잘 보고 있습니다. 🫶🏻

This is kinda super late but Keep Your Head Down made me a fan of them and a lot of reactors apparently hasn't seen the actual MV yet to which I say this mash up doesn't do it justice. SM did it the same year as the The Boys so it was a year full of swag and drums/marching band sounds. Yoo Young Jin knew what he was doing.
