I truly love when they're giving a budget but this album does NOT give that.

Their title is a rework of Shinee's Area and I dunno how I feel about that lol. All that talent being under invested in is a damn SHAME.

The vocals though had some GREAT moments especially the descending runs Xiaojun was doing and also Ten's vocal growth is IMPRESSIVE.

What are your thoughts??

Enjoy!

I haven’t gotten a chance to watch the reaction yet so I’ll definitely comment again after I do. But tbh I can kinda understand why SM isn’t investing as much as we would like into WayV. Cancel culture in China among Cnetizens is extreme. Did you notice how bad WayV’s MV views plummeted after the Lucas scandal? Phantom is barely at 8 million views and On my Youth hasn’t even hit 1 million yet. Unfortunately the Kpop stans that put in the work to pump up fews are Cnets/Asian fans. Before Phantom Moonwalk was the lowest w/ lowest at 20 million views. I do think SM is trying. They have been trying to promote them more in Thai and in the West (Kcon and Buzzfeed/Twitter’s Yt channels)

Yess that's very true and ALSO, controversial opinion or not, Lucas brought a LOT of attention to WayV simple because his looks and that's also something to note.

Unfortunately the scandal happened right as SM was trying to make the other members more popular with those a Subunit music videos. With Ten/YangYang’s Low Low Xiaojun/Kun ‘s Back to you and Lucas and Hendry’s Jalapeño was about to drop. Technically WayV had just debuted like 2.5 yrs when it happened

I had a feeling this album wouldn't be your thing. Honestly, you could have said this was the worst album of all time, my silver lining is that you also have Xiaojun as one of your top 10 idols of all time! I'm going to be honest, I think SM abandoned them right around 2021, and I hope that one day SM realizes what a waste of talent that is. And to add, while I think SM may be trying a bit to help them, Love Talk is one of the most listened to NCT songs on Spotify, maybe try something in that direction again and see what happens.

I did some digging and found Shinee's Area and WayV's On My Youth have the same producers/writers involved (PhD duo Peter Wallevik and Daniel Davidsen) so it's no surprise why yourself and many others found it similar. For me I enjoyed it, especially Kun and Xiaojun's vocals.

I think this album sonically crafted more toward Chinese market. The sound reminds me about Jay Chou's music in 2000s. I've been thinking since their debut, their music is more Kpop for a group that supposed to target Chinese market. I think they revamp themselves to appear more friendly to Chinese audiences in this album.

HAHAHAHAHA Xiaojun just has IT, i've been obssesed with him since the beginning tbh and even action figure how he hits that choreo! Man Love Talk is their classic

Wayv is SO criminally underrated and under appreciated. I swear they give Dream and 127, full albums, repackages, 2 albums a year, but wayv?! They get brushed to the side.

We have to thank Ten’s knee surgery as a huge contribution to his vocal growth and the artist he is today. In an interview w/ a Thai YT channel , Ten said he wasn’t practicing singing at all prior to the knee surgery. He was scared he wouldn’t be able to dance like he used to so he said he needed to at least to be able to sing to make it as an idol.

Rodeo makes me feel very naughty so I resonated with your reaction to it 🤣 The choruses are a little tired, but even with that Poppin’ Love just does something to me.

LOL at “I’m not editing this out” and then singing High School Musical ahahahaha. I really loved this reaction! I mentioned this on your YT channel but your honesty is so refreshing! Because of your channel I’m learning how to listen to these songs with a new perspective. With that said, I loved this album but I’m also little tired of “chanting” type choruses and want something more complex or fresh like DJJ’s Perfume or even WayV’s own Turn Back Time. I also can’t hear Lucas in this album. It definitely feels like a new beginning for them. Ten has said during promos that this is like WayV’s rebirth and they want to show different sides of themselves. I think all of them have grown as individual artists and their confidence has too. I think a lot of that has to do with them being booked and busy all year and then showing out during NCT 2023/NCT Nation Concerts. I know they mentioned their work during NCT 2023 allowed them to bring stuff back to their own sub-unit. I’m excited for the next comeback already! Also, I’d like to thank the WayV stylists for not cutting Hendery’s hair. That man is so damn fine (tho my biases are Ten and Xiaojun). Oooohhh one more thing! Winwin…glad he’s getting more lines and center time! I would like to hear him be more melódic. It feels a little forced when he raps. Idk. That deep ass voice can be used better IMO.

Koko3op

Hahah thank you so much! I really appreciate when people get a new perspective from my thoughts!! YES Chanting type choruses are so boring now! Yeahh Hendery with long hair is just perfection!

LOL honestly same about moonlight...it was the only one that i really didn't vibe with they totally could have done something else there.
