Well ....

THIS was a fucking surprise. He took me on such a beautiful and honest journey in a way I was not expecting. This may be my BEST review of an album so far funny enough, he gave me sooo much to pick and analyse, even in how he'd deliver and sing different lines depending on the lyrical content.

SO Masterful and skilled in his singing it's really something special to listen to. Do I still think there's far too much acoustic guitar? Yes. Does he make up for this with rich production that also incorporates unique sounds and effects to ellevate the music? Absolutely. Would I have it any other way? No.

I'm completely sold and give this album a solid B and I'm SOO glad I checked it out! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Enjoy!

yesss 😩 i was waiting for your reaction to this. let me grab some snacks and relive this album 🙌🏾 Love from The Bahamas 🇧🇸

I loved this album and it's very much my style. I'm literally coming off back to back James Bay/Lumineers Ed Sheeran concerts so this was up my alley. I know we all want r&b from him but this was a breath of fresh air. The View is something special - easily my favorite of the bunch. I wish it was longer and it's a common complaint the songs are always a bit too short. The title is also really good and I'm glad he chose Somebody for the title track. It has some meat to it and gives just enough to catch the ear of the folks. I also love the acoustic version of Lost. I liked the original but the acoustic version brought out something different, something special. Overall solid album and I really enjoyed it. I give it a B+.

I loved this album so much it’s sounds so mature and clean and kyungsoo really made me feel all these emotions with him along the way, he’s gonna be on Le mujin service soon would love if u could check it out!

I wrote my other comment before watching because life lol but I must say I agree that's it's one of one of your best analytical reviews. It's definitely one of the reasons why I enjoy watching your content so much. In the analysis you pointed out so many little things that I need to go back and listen to. I've sang at church pretty much all my life so I know some things, but listening to your comments really adds a bit more insight. Thanks for not skipping this one lol

I am so happy that you loved the album that much. I knew you would at least like Lost. Lost is my favorite as well. I loved how the acoustic version showcased DO’s voice. I was slightly worried the production wouldn’t be enough to make up for the amount of guitar for you. I think real life experience and DO being a pretty good actor helped him get the feeling/emotion across. Also I think he helps that DO had a overall story/narrative to portray for this album. I think the album is titled Expectation because the first track is about finding Somebody then I Do is about a long term relationship and you feel like you found your forever but Then the 2nd half is how life/breakups crushes your expectations and dealing with that

Christine Nguyen

DO is going on Mujin Service?!?! So Excited I keep forgetting he said a long time ago he was actually going to promote this album.

I also enjoyed this work so much more than his first (although still weak to Si Fueras Mia bc love his ass singing Spanish LOL). Kyungsoo definitely been dating, but all these songs got me thinking he experienced something DIFFERENT while he was away...not me being all up in his business lmao. I still yearn for more of an R&B sound from him bc we all know this man could run up and down a song, but if there's one thing Kyungsoo does is let us know what he likes and keeps it that way 🥲. Anywho if Diapatch catches this man out in the streets I need nobody to be surprised because like...stop the delusions lol

Yes! He already appeared on its live and that show with AKMU where they sang "rewrite the stars" it went viral ! Im just glad we finally get to see him promote and go on live shows

Koko3op

It was BEAUTIFULLY executed and gave me things I didn't know I needed! Yes his acting definitely helped a lot.

Koko3op

Ahhh thank you so much! Yes I'm really proud of this review! The thoughts just kept coming because hes soo artistic! I'm glad I didn't skip it also!

Koko3op

That's a very fair rating! It's truly a shame we're in the era of shorter songs

Yay my heart is happy! Kyungsoo is one of those singers that can sing anything and I’ll love it, it’s that simple. I can’t wait for your Lee Mujin service of him, I really liked it. And I really recommend watching the live performances he did on AKMU’s show, especially the duet with Shuyun💜💜

I got the patreon to see you review. DO is my bias, but I'm not normally into the acoustic pop. This album was so good though because of his singing and emotion. Ordinary Days is my favorite because it just hit me in the soul. I love old rock so the guitar does it for me 😁 He's super talented and I'm happy to see him getting recognition.

Every song on this album is right up my ally & I think it's often harder to do something simply & do it well. His amazing voice along with the lyrics took me on such a journey, like just watched a really romantic drama or a book that took my breathe away. He sang with intention & sincerity, he made me feel. This is the kind of music i can listen to over & over (I Do is sooo romantic! I can't remember the last time a song made me feel that way). I really hope he has someone special in his life!

I loved your analysis of this album. So much so, it inspired me to comment which is something I never do. I think it's such a well crafted, mature album. The only thing I would change would be to place Somebody as the last track. I think back to your comment at the beginning of your review along the lines of wishing he sang more mature songs that reflected his age. As you said, I think the placement of the more upbeat songs like Wonder and I Do were done very purposely. They tie directly back to his first single Rose which was very much a naïve view on love. Rose colored glasses and all that. And because they are such a direct reference to that song, I wish they would have been the first and second track. Then he hits you with Lost (I'm guessing outside of the MV, the proposal didn't go well :-)) Then you get the stages of grief with the breakup. The anger and despair of Lost. The tired depression of Ordinary Day. In The View, although he still misses this person, he can start to look more fondly at his memories and hope that they can as well. If Somebody is placed here after The View, it hits differently. As much as I love the MV, it distracts from the lyrics. This man has been through it. He sings about the pain he's experienced in his past relationship, but even after all the pain, he's ready to try again but this time more grounded from his experience. So when the "I want somebody" comes in, it's this sudden loud expression of hope and letting go of the past. He said on Mujin Service (I watched your reaction to that before this) that he views the album as hopeful, so I wonder if Somebody was going to be the last track before they decided to make it the title track. That's how I like to listen the album and understand the story that it's telling. Anyhoo....sorry for the long comment but I appreciated the time you took understanding and appreciating the album and the mood it created and it made me want to share something I've been thinking about a lot since first listening to it. Thank you

Koko3op

Ahhh thank you for such an indepth comment, I appreciate it so much and I'm so glad you left it!! Okay that makes a LOT of sense, having Somebody as the last track along with what he said on Mujin service. I thoroughly enjoyed analysing this album because it felt so raw and honest and masterfully emoted and when that's appreciated it makes me really happy!

Alex M

i too wish kyungsoo would just...put the guitar away for a bit lol. THAT SAID, I liked the album and agree with you on a lot of your points. It's not an album you can just whip out whenever because it really does put you in a specific mood and takes you on an emotional journey. I love Ordinary Days so much for that blues inspired moodiness. It reminds me of John Mayer when he was at his best, singing mornfully about a relationship that just imploded. "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" and "Dreaming with a Broken Heart" in particular come to mind. If DO wants to lean into more blues rather than folk/adult alternative, I'd appreciate it because his singing is so naturally emotive that he'd pull it off well. I'd give the album a B/B+ that is really carried by the back half. It is definitely a natural progression from Empathy that shows a more matured version of him both in terms of the lyrics and in terms of his singing.

Koko3op

Strongly agree! Yess Slow dancing in a burning room is one of my favourite songs from that r@cist ! I thought I referenced it in this but if not, I definitely did in some reactions in the past. Beautiful song and production.

I’m totally right there with you! I thoroughly enjoy everything this man sings, because he SANGGSSSS. But Gdamnit I need my RnB Kyungsoo. Like with that voice, this man can do no wrong, but he does RnB SOOOO RIGHT! But until we get that, I’ll continue to listen to every song that comes out his mouth cuz they’re all blessings to our ears
