Don't mind my face, it was PURE JOY AND euphoria.

These two mini's are an AMAZING one two punch in terms of overall sound, harmonies and delivery. I had SO MUCH fun reacting to these and found some new favourites. 

THIS is the kinda shit I'm talking about.

In the world of homogenized music where you can see other groups performing the same songs, when you hear a Red Velvet song, you can say "ahh, that's Red Velvet". I'm so happy that they're still unique.

Ah also wanted to comment on the length of the songs nowadays. Recently I've been listening to Hozier's latest album and I realized how much more fun it is when the songs actually have time to flow and develop and really tell a story or make a statement or create a vibe. NewJeans keeps coming to mind because it's the more fresh example I have in my mind of unexplored talent due to the tiktok dilution of music. It's not that short songs are necessarily bad but when your discography consists of mostly under 3min/3min max songs then what are you really showing in your music? I think a lot of potential gets lost. I can appreciate a good song even if it's tiktok length but I'd prefer having something more developed and consequently more intentional, because you can't mess around for 4min but you can get away with messing around for 2 lol

Russian Roulette came out September but was delayed a bunch and was meant to be a summer release, so spot on with the summer vibes observation. I love how you mention how different their voices are too. I think that's what really sets Red Velvet apart from a lot of their peers. Their songs feel that much more vibrant and colourful since their voices are so different. I think even with SM's production not being what it use to these days, I still enjoy all of Red Velvet's releases for that reason. But with their long awaited 3rd studio album around the corner, I hope SM can feel inspired and the pressure of what RV3 should deliver.

I'm SCURREDD. I just don't trust SM anymore, I hope the members have enough seniority to stand up for their album and truly deliver but it depends if SM will open their pockets too.

Love the Red Velvet reactions and i am so glad you had a good time reacting to these eps as well. Honestly I find it very commendable that RV's discography is so rich cause at the rate at which they were pumping out albums and mini albums during that 2015-2019 period you'd perhaps expect a lower quality but these songs and those concepts feel like bodies of work full of artistery and individuality vocally. Their voices are so different and they aren't all main or lead vocalists but they all manage to have their own moments. I am PRAYING for good production, layered vocals with interesting notes here and there and BASS for this third album but I fear SM is going to rush the whole thing to placate the fans who were wondering the hell that third album was. Hopefully whoever is working on their music has a good grasp of what rv's sound was cause the fans absolutely do and I, for one, have expectations; which aren't that far fetched seeing as they were able to put out such good music as rookies!

I understand the fear of Revluvs for the 3rd studio album, because SM is a company without a soul now. But Red Velvet has always been a standalone group within SM. They are like EXO, with an R&B focus, but they have no lore, they have no super powers, they aren't from another planet, they are not in the Kwangya universe. Red Velvet seems to have a strong group of creative directors and managers that have consistently directed their content. These are experts in their field, and I don't think SM is dumb enough to mess with what works. Red Velvet is my favorite group, not just Kpop group. I have faith that they will bring the Red Velvet style to the new album. I also want a US tour, with a full band. I'd like to be hired to mix FOH, but that last one probably isn't going to happen.

Micah, thank you for reviving my interest in these EPs. I love RV, but I usually skip these projects when I am listening through their discography. I've been in the music industry since the mid 90s, as a live mixing engineer, a guitarist/vocalist, a producer, a recording engineer, a tour manager, and I'm now an entertainment lawyer. Until I discovered Kpop in 2017, I really grew to hate music. I was so tired of the same four chords over and over. I was so burned out on the pop/rock scene, I just did my job like a robot. I was definitely not alone in that attitude. And then I discovered Kpop, with a huge part of that being Red Velvet. I discovered music that was obviously produced by people who gave a crap about art, musicality, personality, and nuance. The RV catalog is filled with songs that could have easily been throwaway filler tracks on an album, but they aren't. A group of people cared enough to make those songs the very best they could be. Sunny Afternoon is a good example. That song is not special. It doesn't say anything amazing, It doesn't have a killer hook. It isn't even a B-side, more like a C-side. But they cared enough to produce, arrange, engineer, and record that song to the highest possible level. Nobody does that in western pop any more.

EXACTLY! Like I couldn't believe the care I was hearing in these songs and honestly I can imagine how frustrating it must've felt for you hearing the same ole stuff constantly! I feel like we've kinda arrived back at that point again and what makes it worse is songs are now 2 minutes long so they're not even TRYING anymore. I hope this changes but I'm not holding my breath. I'm glad KPop helped you though!

Yessss!! My Friday just become so much better🥹 RV have my favorite discography alongside Exo, I’m always happy to see an album reaction of them. A lot of K-pop fans, especially the newer ones don’t really dive into their discography and it’s such a shame, if not for the songs than for the vocals. For me they have the best vocals in k girl groups. I will wait patiently for the next reaction. Thank you💜

SEE I miss THIS kinda Red Velvet. When the Red part was more Pop-based and silly and quirky. Now their red sound is still way to mature sounding compared to their velvet and really feels like it's all just the same sound.
