Going through the music chronologically certainly brings its challenges lol but I know there's hope at the end of the tunnel!!

I thought I'd find a couple more gems in the earlier albums but it seems I know them already.

Looking forward to the next albums though!

I agree with you that the first few albums they were finding their voice...both the group and SM. They were jack of all trades and master of none. SM didn't know what to do with them. I do feel they truly found their sound in the Perfect Velvet album where they're like...these girls can R&B. Nice to be on this journey with you

I just want to say I never heard the studio version of light me up the same again, and i blame this to Wendy 😂 you should check her radio performance of light me up or her birthday cover or one from la rouge (this is a fancam so the video quality is a meh)..she nailed it and owned that song by herself

Taengkomo 309

Okay i'm done I enjoyed that one, thank you for continuing the journey with red velvet and i'm looking forward for the next one. For wendy, she had vocal nodule predebut after joining SM so she relearned singing again, i think that's why she didn't push the notes on the early days, and maybe there's also concern exhausting her since they sang live a lot early days...and i think that's also the reason why her head voice is developed so well but cmiiw As for her voice she adds so much flavor to it honestly you can see from the recording behind (i can't wait for you to get there, we have queendom, feel my rhythm and birthday recording behind) and she's like the group vocal guide even though she's not starting the song. And i feel like when she tried to layer someone she matched the vocal tone so it might be confusing to differentiate. One example is when she layered Irene's rap in queendom, that sounded so much like Irene instead of giving "wendy is layering this part". And she's scattered all over the songs honestly but again not in the "i'm here" way but more like making the song more solid. I hope my ramblings are making sense 😂

Koko3op

Haha totally makes sense! Oooo I didn't know about the nodule, interesting! And that's interesting regarding her guiding vocals. I did check out their behind recordings off camera a while ago but don't really remember, might rewatch and react.

Taengkomo 309

Oh if you don't mind rewatch it on camera that would be great, would like to hear some commentary from your regarding their recording process 😁

Honestly I think I prefer Wendy’s solo version of light me up (probably bcs the production in the original sounds slightly odd for some reason) https://youtube.com/watch?v=B-1pGaN7cQE&feature=share7

So glad to see you continue your Red Velvet journey! I promise it gets better lol I'm a Red Velvet stan and I must admit I can't remember the last time I played The Velvet album lol That album just isn't it. I feel like they couldn't let go of the Ice Cream Cake style of production which basically only worked really well for its title track, on The Velvet they should've gone with something more elegant. And then the songs that were more elegant ended up sounding boring. One of These Nights though ✨👌 One of the best Red Velvet title tracks for sure!!(one of their best MVs too) Next up is Russian Roulette and Rookie I think? I'm trying to think which one I prefer... Also, watching your Red Velvet album reactions I've been trying to predict if you'll like a song or not and so far I think I've gotten it right each time lol Like, I knew Something Kinda Crazy would drive you crazy 😅 and I knew you'd be disappointed with the production on Light me Up. You should listen to Wendy's solo version like others mentioned here. I remember she saying that was her all time favorite Red Velvet track at some point. I wonder if it's still her favorite. Haha Thanks for the fun video! Hope you have more fun with the next albums ❤

Koko3op

Hahaha I love that you know me this well!! I wish I could do premieres on here like how it works on Youtube. Would love to watch along with your guesses

2023-06-23 13:09:36 You realising only at the end that Seulgi is part of RV's vocal line too made me laugh lmao cos YES she's RV's best dancer and their 2nd best vocal - like idk a better female ace sorry 😌 Comparing her to Wendy tho, I think in the earlier years especially, Wendy was given flashier vocal moments and adlibs but Seulgi was given a lot of work when it came to harmonies and their choruses making her more essential to their overall sound. Once you realise almost every group chorus has Seulgi's vocals at the forefront, you cant unhear it. And I think it ultimately comes down to vocal colour/tone. Wendy is undeniably a beast vocally, is so versatile and there pretty much isn't anything she can pull off, but unlike Seulgi and Joy I think she's just behind them when it comes to unique sounding tone. There's just this quality of warmth and sweetness in Seulgi's voice that lends really well to starting off songs, dominating harmonies and beefing up a chorus. Added bonus that she's a technically well trained vocal too and has a surprising amount of strength to her voice. Anyway loving your Red Velvet journey! ngl I really love the ICC mini and think it did a great job introducing their two sides. All the songs on that mini hold a lot of nostalgic value for me lol but I can see why it wasn't your thing. Still love how you appreciated Take It Slow's lyrical content tho, that song is rly fun. The Velvet mini is probably RV's weirdest project in their discography. It feels more like a very rough draft for what becomes their 2nd full length album the Perfect Velvet. And I feel so validated for your reaction to Light Me Up lmao. I've wanted to like that song for years but the production is so goofy, you can never actually get into the song because it keeps throwing random things at you. A shame because the vocals are really nice. But here we gooo Russian Roulette and Rookie minis! side note: if you ever do a discovering red velvet series with CeeCee (pls do 😭), you should for sure add One of These Nights. listening to that song reminded me of what she said about FMR when she said "see when you let a creative create" 2nd side note: please please check out Red Velvet's Ice Cream Cake Tango ver from their La Rouge concert. There was never an official concert DVD but lots of HD cams like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThZP1sBLZqg&t=118s&pp=ygUncmVkIHZlbHZldCBpY2UgY3JlYW0gY2FrZSB0YW5nbyB2ZXJzaW9u The way they reimagine the song and give it a grown up twist is insane - it hardly sounds like the same song, and they did completely new choreo. Also here's a link to their 1st concert Red Room that has a full performance version of Automatic. It was the first and only time they did a full performance and theyre all 2 yrs older than when it was released so its a lot more of a confidence perfs https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=488667658335884

YESS you can tell Seulgi adds a lot of body to the vocals and agreed Wendy's tone is more typical for sure. Haha I'm so glad I validated what you felt about Light me up! YAAY love my opinions being confirmed too lol. Ceecee knows a bit of RV already but could always do more for sure. Ooo i'll watch that off camera thanks!

dyacc

ooh does she know more than just FMR and Queendom?

Hibz

lol i remember when they first announced the velvet album i thought it would be more like automatic but boy was i disappointed. Cool hot sweet love and automatic are the ones i usually listen to often. I prefer the ice cream cake album more but this was interesting to watch because compare this to their later albums, there's a stark difference and i love that growth. I'm enjoying your RV discovery so far. side note: i've been relistening to shinee's discography to find any gems i missed, i'm wondering have you heard all of it or is it like RV where you've dabbled a bit?

Koko3op

I actually did a full revisit of Shinee's Korean albums on my twitter with ratings for all the songs but that's gone now lol but I do have a video on kpop hottakes where i rank and discuss them including my faves on each album! Check it out and leave a comment pls!
