LOOOL I was gonna ignore this reaction but I thought, fuck it!

The only song I'll give another chance is miniskirt.

The rest tho? EEEEK!

The fact that Chanmi was 17 when miniskirt came out still blows my mind. Yes the song is still iconic bc of the sexy concept but 17 is wild.

Ahhhhh....this particular slice of 2nd gen girl groups.....super sexy concept/super r&b influence. Whether that particular style is or isn't your bag the one thing you can't deny is the overall vocal skill of the idols at the time. Girl groups especially had some particularly crazy vocalists since music shows still required live singing and girl group choreo at the time was pretty basic (the members of beg often talk about how they're all horrible dancers).....the JeA belt during sixth sense is still pretty iconic. Definitely odd tho that you didn't watch Abracadabra which was their biggest hit by a mile

Nooooo! Lol I got into kpop during 2nd gen, so I like most of these songs. For Brown Eyed Girls, "Cleansing Cream" is a more ballad vocal focused song. I don't really like most ballads so it's hard for me to recommend. (I do like cleansing cream though) For AOA they do acoustic versions for almost all their title tracks, AOA "confused" is a song you may like....maybe... I haven't listened to Secret in a million years so no comment. I only know Spica title tracks, so no comment again.

Oh boy can't wait to see how this plays out haha

Oh nah this wasn't too bad to take in but I also agree w you mostly so 🤷🏿‍♂️ Everybody was making those generic mall beats, too on the nose w the "pop" description. Like, muddy it up a little bit, add some r&b sass.. SOMETHING!!

The production on old kpop songs do feel a bit dated. Of course, all music eventually gets dated but I think the quality of the producers improved a lot from 3rd gen onwards. Will BTS/Blackpink/Twice songs stand the test of time better? We shall see, since not enough time has passed for that The test for me is whether you could recommend the songs to people who didn't listen to it when they were young

I think the biggest thing about SPICA, is they had some of the vocals on par with MAMAMOO, but their production was far less in quality comparatively. I forget the specifics, but I think they competed with two songs and MAMAMOO won and kept getting more fame, so SPICA's production was jumping around to try and find a popular sound to make money rather than utilize the girls' talents. Other than "You Don't Love Me" most of their songs have mediocre production that is so loud you can barely hear their vocals properly.

Not sure if you would revisit brown eyed girls but they had a ballad called “Abandoned” that was released a few years ago. This ballad is more stripped down, more focused on their vocals with orchestral background
