SOO MANY THOUGHTS!
THE DISCOGRAPHY is near enough flawless which made this such a joy to experience HOW FUCKING EVER.
Their stage presence was very disappointing, I actually googled if this is a common issue and come to find a lot of fans find their stage presence lacking and imo i think Irene as the leader and oldest member by decent margins plays a big role in that. I LOVE her aloofness but I think it's also influenced the other members to not be as bold but it doesn't suit them as much as it does her but I don't see them wanting to break out of that as she's very much their unnie and her seniority is felt, you can see this by how often she's in the center when most groups usually rotate that often even with set center positions. The same thing could've have happened with SNSD I believe but Taeyeon happily took the back seat and the other members were closer in age with dominant personalities that I believe they could bully her into doing more LOL and Jess being Taeyeon's age and being more dominant provided a good balance for the group chemistry. If Seulgi was 2 years older the same may have happened here.
Wendy once warmed up was a joy to watch. Yeri and Joy looked like they didn't want to be there for most of it which was thankfully amusing cos I love their music. They could've been having the time of their lives but it doesn't read as a first time viewer.
Seulgi is obviously the strongest performer and tries her best to keep the energy for everyone else however there's a sense of holding back even on her part and she actually comes across as timid at times even though she's a very talented and clean dancer, it's odd. I'd love to see her showcase a bad/possessed girl persona at times because I know she can do it. Like I can honestly say there wasn't a standout moment where as a main dancer I was like I NEED TO REWATCH THAT COS SEULGI ATE!!! I feel similarly with Hyoyeon. I'd find Yoona, Yuri and Sooyoung catching my eye more with that "this is my STAGE and I'm going to KILL IT" presence even though Hyo is the strongest dancer and I feel like not being encouraged by your company/gen public to be like that plays a big part.
Overall I'd give them MAJOR credit for dancing THROUGHOUT and with a lot of live vocal moments it requires a lot of stamina. If they'd had more set pieces and acting moments I think it would've taken the stress away from doing ALL that choreo which sometimes starts to feel robotic since it doesn't have much variations from the original.
Hope you enjoy and see where I'm coming from, I'm glad I found new songs too!
