I think the open vowels problem has to do with the braces. He's had braces since last year I believe and I don't know when he's taking them out but when I listen to most of their older stuff I don't hear any problems with it but whenever I listen to their newer stuff I notice it a bit

I personally love Seungmin's slight nasal tone, but can definitely see where he can adjust his techniques to help get a fuller sound. I would agree that the vowel problem is likely due to the braces. He has mentioned before how the braces keep him from really being able to sing the way he wants to. Hopefully he'll be able to get them off soon. If I'm not mistaken, I believe within the last year he started training with Baekhyun's vocal coach so I can only imagine how much he's going to improve from here.

I love how you always go into detail on their technique! It makes me appreciate the artists in a way I hadn't before. I've felt that something wasn't connecting with me with his singing even though he emotes quite well. I think you're spot on abt him approaching all vowels quite similarly (if I understood you correctly lol). I'd love to hear what you'd think of the members in Day6 and their technique. They have 4 main vocalists and one sub vocalist and all have very distinct voices. They're also in JYPE and write all their own music. They talk a lot about their songwriting, lyricism and arranging so it'd be cool to hear what you/your friends think :) Oh and Seungmin happens to be the president of our fan club! He's done a few covers both solo and w other members!

For sure! I feel I've become a bigger fan of both Lee Know, Han and now Seungmin because of your videos! Instead of writing them off as "singers that just aren't for me", I now see them as really talented vocalists that I can learn from. Both from their obvious skills but also from what they could still work on. Keep doing you!

I absolutely appreciate your critiques. Oftentimes fans get so bent out of shape when someone says their fave artist isn't perfect. Fandoms can be brutal, but the reality is that you're offering opinions, insight and suggestions to make Seungmin that much better. I absolutely love him and his sound. This was one of my fave eps, also. The song choices were spot on.

Just wanted to add on (since I was recently rewatching the Love Poem stage for the millionth time) that Kingdom took place before he got the new braces and in that performance you can see him utilizing much wider and more open vowels, or at the very least more varied vowel shapes. I'd be curious to know your thoughts on the differences/similarities you see between then and now.
