I agree, too. I was nodding to Mayfly's stage but I was dancing and smiling to It's One's.

Sorry in advance; I know I always have a lot to say, but I'm the only one in my immediate vicinity who has watched Kingdom so I haven't been able to talk to anyone about it...I enjoyed the vibe of It'sOne's rap track, but if we're being honest, it didn't really take advantage of the three rappers' skillsets. They were already at a bit of a disadvantage because TheBoyz are a very new group and SF9 focuses more on solo activities, so they probably didn't know much about each other, so each of them was working with 2 new people....meanwhile, 3RACHA was already a well-oiled machine with accolades to their title, Minhyuk is one of the rappers from one of the most renowned groups in Kpop history, and SKZ and Ateez have always been fairly good friends (thanks, Changbin and Wooyoung! haha), so there's no way Hongjoong and 3RACHA weren't at least familiar with each other's rap and production styles. Along with that, I feel like this competition highlighted one major difference between Bobby's style and 3RACHA's style. Bobby tends to have a vision and makes it work around who he's working with, which is 100% valid and most of the time, extremely successful when he's producing a feature track...for me, Full DaSH lacked the cohesion that Playing with Paint had. What was meant to be a team performance ended up feeling like 3 distinct rappers featuring on a song. Another thing that really stood out to me about the It'sOne team was that Bobby, Sunwoo and Hwiyoung are all insanely talented, but their both the groups they're from and their personal raps tend to take very different stylistic directions. I reckon the task of trying to mitigate this disparity would be like trying to work a classical singer on a track with a reggae singer and a bollywood singer. If you can work it out, the result could be insanely cool. I also wonder if having an autotuned section was a prerequisite for production. Both teams included it. I personally didn't feel like Hwiyoung's dynamics were suited to autotune like that. 3RACHA (in this case, 5RACHA) tends to take the people they're working with and build the track to suit them. It's been like that since the beginning, when JYP scolded Chan for producing Hellevator in a female key because he didn't know anything about the trainees Chan had selected and had been training....Chan built the track around Han's vocal range. I think that if the competitor hadn't been Mayfly, then It'sOne could easily have won, but it's hard to compete against one of the most credited idol production teams, and arguably, 2 of the best rappers in the industry.

Oh! 3RACHA! So the Korean pronunciation of the English number 3 is sree because there is no "th" sound in Korean and no hangul to represent it, right? Sriracha, pronounced sree-rac-ha, is a hot sauce. SKZ's production team named themselves 3RACHA as a play on words for Sriracha, implying that they only produce hot tracks. Amusingly, they often partner with another producer under JYP labels named HotSauce. XD

I don't remember the context to anything else but i have to say The Boyz are SKZ's seniors lol. They debuted in 2017 so they're not "very new" haha just fyi!

Michele Wang

Oh. No, I didn't mean that they were fresh debutees or anything. Just that, looking at who they competed against, they were new by comparison. In 2021, they were 4 years old. They're only 3 months older than SKZ, and ATEEZ are less than a year their juniors.....in comparison to being 6 or 10 years in the industry at the time like 2 of their other competitors, they were very new. It should also be noted that 3RACH made their debut 1/17/17, 12 months prior to The Boyz' group debut. They already had 3 successful mixtapes released by that time. Also, we need to consider the differences between how they debuted and the notoriety of JYP vs IST. Ikon and BtoB are household names. My mother in law, who otherwise listens exclusively to trot, carries a Changsub fancard in her wallet. 🤣 I should have explained myself better, but my comment was already super long.

omg! You will looooooove the next episode with the Mayfly vocals! I cant wait! One of the best performance of the whole show!

You’re right in that the performances just keep getting better and better! The dance round was so close for me and I kinda felt for DKs team as they were both such great performances just very different. No denying though May Flys chemistry across each sub unit was just off the roof!

Lex

Totally agree with you about the rap unit! I much preferred the vibe of It's One's track and performance. You made me understand more why Mayfly won though. As with all the performances it really is a matter of preference :)

I really loved watching „mayfly“ and „it’s one“ working together. I didn’t really know the groups (except SKZ) before kingdom, but I really had fun learning more about these groups. The performances of both were amazing but to be honest I was biased to „mayfly“. They had more chemistry in my opinion. (I just realized Son Dong-pyo was one of the judges. He’s such a funny cute boy)
