WELL I can't remember what I said specially when I watched Ningning's Begin again performances but I think here I found new things I LOVE about how she sings, especially when it comes to how specific she is technically however I also found new things that made me realise why I'm not as obsessed with her voice as I should be.

I'm glad I tried to articulate whatever it was because she's the only one in the aespa recording that was showing getting that tip from the producer to enunciate each word individually with more punch which brought her diaphragm more and added weight to her voice, something I was desperately wanted in the mujin service.

Winter's voice is maturing NICELY! My GOD, her lows are rich and full and her chest is getting fuller in sound also. Karina and Giselle are also solid. I LOVE Giselle's falsetto.

Looking forward to more recordings!

Cant wait to watch this let me give my 2 cents before i start watching lol. For me i think its a situation of a singer having a mixed voice thats more head voice dominant than chest voice, in addition to her having a fear of singing in a way that hurts her voice which is why her notes barley have weight to them. shes still an amazing signer though lol i love her agility omg i just wish shed have a more balanced mix.

It was funny to me that she chose be natural to sing bc I was thinking how ningning reminds me a little of joy of red velvet vocally

i SOOOO agree about ning's voice lacking that UMPH, that depth to it a lot of times like thats how i always felt im glad im not crazy lmao

Loveeee me some NingNing

Yep, she does have quite a heady mix voice, which is why her voice is so smooth and doesn't have that "resistance" in the sound when she's singing in that upper 4th/5th octave but is also why her voice loses that power and punch that comes from a chestier coordination. When you go lower, you naturally opt to sing in your chest register which brings more chord closure, resistance and connected "column of sound" which is what we see here.

I agree with most of the things you said. Definitely a heady approach to higher register and good for vocal health in the long run. I think as she gets to her 30s, like most women her voice will definitely ground naturally and we'll hear that depth or the roundedness that you're talking about more. Or you know she would not be able to let go of the ease she has and get even headier to compensate for that. Only time will tell.

Yess only time will tell but tbh idols are different cos it feels as though they still remain youthful even as they age. Guess we'll see!

no cause hearing ningning say she's an r&b girlie, then mentioning her favorite songs... she's deadass one of us just a lighter shade like woah- mentioning usher, kehlani, covering tori, AND BEYONCE IS HER INSPO??? yeah she's invited to the cookout ALSO something clicked while watching this about her technique; i think i figured out why she doesn't sound grounded even though she is. her placement is very forward even though it's grounded, leading to the metallic sound; it's a result of her not raising the soft palate, the forward placement, and wide vowel shaping. if she dropped the jaw a bit more like when she's in her lower range (my beloved), her mix would be pristine. it's pretty good where it is, but having the wide vowel shaping, which applies more nasal pressure when going up there, makes the notes (Eb5+) above her money notes (C5-D5) sound constricted. one thing this mujin episode helped me notice was that when she sings covers or something on the spot, she flips into falsetto/head voice a lot because it's one of the sweet spots in her voice, which requires nasality and widening the mouth to help with that ease. therefore, it's why she uses kinda the same technique in her belt and just pushes with her diaphragm without creating open space in her mouth, resulting in the constriction. random last side note abt ning: she's on the cusp of libra-scorpio but said she identifies as a libra and lowkey that makes sm more sense to me than scorpio LOL 49:26 she's always v stylistic during the recording but when it comes to singing live, winter is sometimes overly chesty in her delivery it's kinda funny how you mention that bc i noticed the same thing. (pls i feel like i always write such long comments sorry LMFAO)

The “pyong pyong pyong” is actually in the song! You can hear it if you listen very close! This comeback really was good for aespa vocally in the sense of them playing with different ranges (esp tapping into Winter’s lower register a bit) and using Giselle’s higher voice too

Koko3op

Long comments are always welcomed lool but yeah what you described totally makes sense! I think she will keep playing around with her technique for sure. Libra suits her A LOT more!

These girls remind me why I love kpop so much, like I genuinely can't perceive how absolutely talented they are

I don't listen to that much R&B, but when Ningning says her favourite genre is R&B, something felt amiss. She doesn't really strike me as an R&B singer (in terms of style) even when she was doing covers here. When she did the straight ballad with Mujin later on, it felt more at home for her. It seems like she likes R&B but grew up singing straight ballads? Which makes sense if she spent her youth doing talent shows in China. She sounds like she could get there in time, but right now, sounds closer to a Chinese ballad singer covering R&B

Koko3op

Oooo interesting I think the opposite. R&B sits in his voice thoroughly, even when she did Begin Again, her details are sooo r&b girl but I do get what you mean too
