Here's my tip for writing jokes: don't ask me I haven't got a clue. I think you just mash words and ideas around and share the bits you find funny.

HOWEVER, the thing I've learnt recently which I've found pretty useful is the idea of the bucket.

Buckets don't help you write jokes but they help you communicate them to other people.

So what is a bucket?

Well it's an idea I nicked off Joel & Jason (Cunk / Ladybird etc)

You take a thing - it could be an ad or a sale brochure and you empty it out of the content. Then you fill it with your own madness.

And that generally makes your idea funnier because it communicates the jokes with more clarity to people. "I get it, I know where it's coming from"

So, for example here, I wrote a load of stupid ideas for old computer games but it's 10x better as presented as a mail order shop from the mid 80s.

Anyway - I found that idea helpful - maybe if you like messing around with comedy ideas, you might find useful too.
