"A college student," Ashley answered wryly. "I don't have time to worry about all that this year... Besides, I'm eighteen now; what point is there in getting all dressed up?"

"Seriously?" her friend Yazmin rolled her eyes. "Halloween isn't just for kids, you know... It only really gets good once you grow up. Candy's fine and all, but the parties are where it's at."

"Yeah," Ashley scoffed. "I definitely don't have time for parties, so, like I said, what I'm going to be for Halloween is a good prospective college student who is studying for the big bio exam I have the Monday after."

And that was her plan, inwardly laughing as the day approached and she heard other students in the cafeteria planning out their costumes in between classes, feeling quite superior, knowing she was taking her education much more seriously than they were. Maybe, like her, they already had their early applications in, and didn't think it mattered what happened during the rest of their senior year at high school, but she wasn't going to fall into that trap. Acceptance letters hadn't gone out yet; her grades were still important, even if she didn't want to make sure she didn't get rusty.

All that changed, however, when she went to the Open House at one of the colleges she'd applied to. She'd been there before, of course, but it was one of her top choices, despite being in the same city she already lived in. It would have been nice to get further away, experience new things... It was a good school, however, and she could always choose to live on campus, or get her own apartment, or save the money she would have spent on either for after graduation.

It was nice, getting another look around at what could very well be her new home for the next four years, wondering if the rest of the people in her group had applied already, too, trying to suss out their chances for beating her. Part of her had hoped that, during this visit, maybe she'd get surprised, have someone from admissions present her with her acceptance letter on the spot, but, as nice as the fantasy was, she knew that wasn't how things worked.

Something else happened while she was there that was just as good, however. Once the tour was over, and she was getting her things together to head back home, she heard a voice saying, "Hey, there... Are you new here?"

She felt her face turn red, swallowing as she hurriedly tugged her cardigan closed, covering the nametag that identified her as a visiting student, stuck to her inner shirt. "Y-Yeah, you could say that," she replied, turning around, thrilled to have been mistaken as a college student, especially when she got a glimpse of who had done it. It wasn't that unusual, she knew, since there were people who, thanks to their birthdays, were already in college at her age, though, just from observing during her visits, it felt like college students had a whole different air about them, despite how old they were.

"Cool," the boy smiled. "I didn't think I recognized you. My name's Deon."

"A-Ashley," she giggled.

"We're having a Halloween party this weekend," he told her. "It's gonna be incredible... You should come. We can get to know each other a little better there."

Ashley, of course, said, "S-Sure!", without any second thought, getting the location from him, glad she'd just had a tour, so she knew which dorm he was talking about. Was she really going to do this, though? Was she going to pretend she was already in college to impress some guy, no matter how hot he was?

"Oh, and costumes are required," he added, right before they parted ways. "Can't wait to see what yours is going to be!"

"Y-Yeah," she chuckled. "Me, neither... I-I mean, I can't wait for you to see it... I-I know what it is, obviously, but..." She shook her head, making herself shut up. "See you then!"

"Huh," Yazmin smirked. "So, you don't have time for parties, unless it's a hot college guy throwing them..."

"It's not like that!" Ashley huffed. "I-I don't know if he's actually throwing it or not, just that he's going to be there..."

"And I thought you already had a costume," her friend continued. "Why don't you go and show him your 'college student' outfit; I'm sure he'd be very impressed."

"Shut up!" Ashley glared. "I knew I shouldn't have told you!"

"Calm down," Yazmin gave her a light shove. "I'm only teasing... I'm glad you're going to have some fun. You deserve it. Now we just have to find you a real costume."

It was very last minute, however, and the Halloween store Yazmin had used for her own costume was picked clean, nothing left in Ashley's size except a few stray accessories, none of which made enough sense together for her to cobble anything together out of them. "There are other stores," Yazmin reassured her. "We'll keep looking."

But the other big stores were pretty much the same, and Ashley was desperately trying to think of something she could make out of things she already had that wouldn't totally stupid in front of Deon, when, as they drove back to Ashley's apartment, Yazmin spotted it. "Let's try that place," she suggested, pulling into a parking spot.

"There's not a..." Ashley started to say, glancing out her window. "Oh." She tilted her head, trying to think back to all the times she'd passed this place in the past month or so. She hadn't noticed a Halloween store there, but, to be fair, it was pretty small, and she was so used to this road, she didn't really pay that much attention to it. "They probably won't have anything either."

"It'll take two seconds to look," Yazmin told her. "Don't be a Debby Downer."

Ashley was almost right, though, the shelves pretty bare, like everywhere else... There was, however, one package left, sitting on a shelf, a picture of a young woman in a onesie pasted on the front. "No way," Ashley wrinkled her nose, shaking her head. "I'm not wearing that..."

"It's what they have," Yazmin shrugged. "And it's even in your size... It's like destiny, Ash."

Ashley was already worried he'd figure out the truth, that Deon would realize she wasn't meant to be there, that she was too young, even if she was eighteen... This costume seemed like it was just giving him more hints to take him down that path. He had told her costumes were required, though, and, like it or not, it was starting to feel like this was the last costume in the city that would fit her, so, reluctantly, she bought it.

"You're going to look adorable," Yazmin encouraged her. "You have to send me pics!"

Ashley didn't even bother to open it until Halloween, half hoping she'd find something else. Finally, she had to bite the bullet and get ready, or she was going to be late, so she ripped open the package, dumping it out on her bed. "Ugh," she wrinkled her nose, staring at it. It was even worse than she'd expected, the picture on the front making it look like it was a pretty plain, baby blue onesie, while the one inside was white, the blue coming in as trim around the arm and leg holes, and, embarrassingly, the sailor suit style collar. And, to add insult to injury, there was something else with it, a big, puffy, white diaper.

She pulled the onesie on without it, but, even before she snapped it up, it was clear it would be too loose without something underneath. "This is so dumb!" she protested to herself, unfolding the diaper, unable to believe she was doing this, putting herself into a diaper to go to her first college party... She definitely hadn't noticed that thing on the picture, hadn't seen any hint of a bulge under the onesie, or she would have been even less inclined to settle... Although, in that case, she'd probably be without any costume whatsoever.

She snapped the onesie up as quickly as she could, to hide the diaper from her sight, and searched her dresser for some knee socks to go with it, knowing it might get chilly. To her surprise, she found some that matched the color of the trim and collar perfectly, and were topped with lace and bows. They must have been old, because she hadn't worn them in long enough that she'd forgotten they existed, and had no intention of wearing them again after this, since they were so childish, but they were exactly what she needed.

She tied her hair up in ribbons, looked at herself in the mirror, wrinkling her nose. She couldn't deny that she was cute... Was this going to be too much for Deon, though? He'd probably assumed she'd be in some sexy, skimpy costume... And, honestly, that was what she'd been hoping for, too, if only to try it out.

"Ashy!" her mother called from the living room. "Can you come out here?"

Ashley rolled her eyes, but did as she was told, walking out of her room, blushing as she heard the diaper crinkling between her legs, hoping the music at the party would be loud enough to cover that up, and trying to walk without the waddle the garment was giving her, knowing that was going to be much harder to hide.

Her mother, thankfully, didn't say anything about the outfit, didn't gush over how adorable she was. Ashley had told her she was getting ready for the party, and putting on her costume, so she must have been prepared, since she didn't even bat an eye. "Ashy, didn't I ask you to clean things up in here?"

"Mooom," Ashley whined. She was always nagging her to do some dusting, or vacuum. "I don't have time for that right now, I..."

"Whatever you're doing can wait," her mother informed her. "Now... Sweetie, are you wet?"

"Wh-What?!" Ashley blushed again, deeper. Why would she ask her that?! And why did it feel like she was right? Ashley squirmed, embarrassed, one hand dropping down, giving her diaper a poke, hoping she was wrong, while, more worryingly, the other automatically made its way to her mouth.

"I'm sure you'll be fine," her mother waved it off. "Could you please pick up your toys? They're all over!"

There were, in fact, stuffed animals scattered all around the living room, but those weren't Ashley's... Were they? She was an only child, so there wasn't exactly anyone else she could blame them on... "S-Sorry, Mommy," she mumbled, the last syllable slipping out without her noticing.

"It's all right," her mother smiled, giving her a hug. "I just wish I didn't have to ask you to do it every day. I'd think you would have learned by now to clean up after yourself." She gave the seat of the girl's diaper a pat as she embraced her, like it was second nature. "Just get it taken care of, okay?"

"A-All right," Ashley nodded, picking up one of the teddy bears, pausing. It did look, and feel, familiar, but she'd gotten rid of most of her stuffed animals years ago... Had her mother secretly kept them? Why would she have brought them back now, and put them in the living room like this? And, more importantly, when had she wet herself? She knew better than that... She'd been potty trained for years and years, without so much as a bedwetting incident... Her mom hadn't seemed surprised by it at all, had recognized it instantly, despite the diaper being hidden by the onesie, as if it was perfectly normal...

That definitely wasn't true, though she was grateful that she'd had the diaper on, or it would have been much worse. Unless... It was quite a coincidence that this had happened now, after she'd dressed up like a toddler...

"I-I don't have time right now," Ashley shook her head, trying to clear it. "I-I need to get going. I have that party, remember?"

She hadn't told her mother the party was at college, of course. She knew Ashley was going to one, however, to explain why she was going to be leaving in a costume, and not getting back until late. Ashley had been a little worried her mom would ask a bunch of questions, but she seemed happy for her, glad she was going out and doing something, and not being obsessed with her schoolwork.

Her mom glanced over at the clock. "Nice try," she replied. "You have plenty of time to do both, young lady."

"Fine," Ashley pouted. Her mother chuckled, walked away, leaving Ashley to her work, the younger woman scurrying to her room to grab her purse, hardly noticing she was still clinging to her teddy bear as she toddled down the hall.

"You're not going anywhere until your toys are put up," her mother shouted from the kitchen. "I can hear you running around!"

"I wasn't going to!" Ashley huffed, stomping her foot. "I-I was just getting ready!"

Something felt wrong with her purse, though, as she shuffled back to the living room. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, so she sat down, plopping onto the floor as second nature, not even considering the sofa for some reason, setting aside her bear and opening up the purse, digging through it... And finding her keys.

But... Those weren't her keys... Were they? She rolled forward, lying on her tummy, staring at them, confused. Part of her knew they couldn't be, that they were too big, and plasticky, to actually open the door to the apartment, or fit into the ignition of her car... And yet, at the same time, the sight of them, the weight of them in her hand, felt so right, so familiar...

If they didn't fit in any locks, though, then what were they for? It shouldn't have been that big of a mystery... She was smart, she knew that... She was almost in college, wasn't she? That cute boy had even thought she was in college... If only he could see her now, stumped by a set of toy keys, lying on her belly in a onesie and a soggy diaper, totally perplexed...

"Oh!" she squealed, everything finally snapping into place. Proudly, she slid one of the keys into her mouth, starting to suck on it, grinning.

That had to be it; it felt so right, there was no other explanation. She drooled away, content, barely even noticing her onesie growing a bit tighter, the seat of her diaper expanding slowly, potty training the furthest thing from her mind.

She'd solved the mystery, and that was what was important. That wasn't so hard... She'd figured it out, all on her own! If only Deon could see her now!

"Ashy, are you... Ashley!" her mother snapped, walking in. "I asked you to pick up your toys, not play with them!" She sighed, shaking her head, then giving the air a sniff. "Wait, did you...?"

She bent down, patting the seat of the girl's onesie, and, for the first time, Ashley noticed the warm mush in there, as it spread further around her backside at the contact, her eyes widening, cheeks turning pink. That couldn't be right... Wetting herself was one thing, but there was no way she could have done... that... without noticing! But the evidence was there, inescapable as she wiggled her bottom, feeling it oozing and shifting.

"I-I..." she stammered, not sure what to say, how to defend herself. This definitely wasn't normal, wasn't the way things were supposed to be... She was meant to be off, enjoying her first college party, not unknowingly filling her diaper like a baby!

"Just as well," her mother shrugged. "Better to get it out of the way now, huh?"

"N-No!" Ashley shook her head.

"What?" her mom laughed. "Do you want Yazmin to have to change you?"

Ashley's thumb flew back into her mouth at that thought, at the idea of her friend seeing her this way, especially now that her diaper was messy. Ashley loved her friend, but she'd always considered herself more mature than her, or anyone else at her school.... The last thing she wanted was for the girl to change her stinky diaper!

Her mother helped her roll over onto her back, letting her rest her head on one of the larger stuffed animals there on the floor with her, unsnapping the onesie, playfully waving her hand in front of her nose as Ashley stared up at her, still sucking her thumb, more confused than ever. It was almost like this costume was changing things, was turning her into an overgrown toddler... And changing everything around her, too. That was impossible, obviously, and yet...

The doorbell rang as Ashley's mom reached for the tapes on the girl's diaper, and she hopped up. "Speak of the devil!" she exclaimed. "Wait here, sweetie." She walked off, leaving Ashley to her thoughts for a few moments before returning... With the exact person Ashley didn't want to see.

"N-No!" she whimpered, blushing as Yazmin swept in, kneeling down to tickle her exposed tummy.

"There's my favorite girl!" Yazmin smiled, Ashley's hopes that she'd somehow not notice what she was wearing, or the state of it, swept away a second later. "Uh-oh... Did you have an accident, Ashy?"

"I told her, better now than when you're out," Ashley's mother commented. "I'm happy to take care of it, but I think she kind of wanted her favorite babysitter to do it..."

"No problem! Yazmin to the rescue!" Ashley sucked harder on her thumb as her friend began to untape her diaper, exposing the mess inside, not grossed out - or, worse, surprised - in the slightest. "We'll get you fixed up in no time!"

Ashley blushed as Yazmin began to wipe her clean, too mortified to speak through most of it. "Y-Yazmin," she finally managed to mumble around her thumb. "I-It's the costume... Y-You know it's just the costume, right?"

"What's that, cutie?" Yazmin asked, leaning a bit closer. "You're in your costume, sweetie! Remember? You're an adorable little sailor girl!" She gave the collar around the neck of the onesie a tug. "It's too late to change your mind now, silly."

"N-No, that's not..." Ashley groaned, shaking her head.

"Don't be difficult, Ashy," her mother ordered. "Yazmin is already been nice enough to take you out to the festival... If you wanted a different costume, you should have told her that a week ago, at least."

Yazmin taped a fresh diaper up around Ashley's bottom, snapping the onesie up and helping her to her feet, accepting the diaper bag the stunned girl's mother had waiting for her, while the older woman set Ashley on the couch to wrangle a pair of baby blue Mary Janes onto her feet. "You're going to behave yourself, aren't you? I don't want to hear that you were acting up..."

"I'm sure she'll be a little angel," Yazmin said, taking Ashley's hand once her shoes were on. "We'll be back before bedtime!"

Ashley's thumb stayed firmly in place as she was led outside of the apartment, down the halls, letting more and more people see her dressed this way. None of them batted an eye, which was somehow worse than the alternative. She was working up the courage to ask Yazmin if she remembered the way things were supposed to be, or just visiting the costume shop, but she was shocked into silence when the girl opened the back door of her car, and revealed an oversized booster seat back there, big enough for Ashley herself.

That hadn't been there when they'd been costume shopping; Ashley had never seen it before. Why would she have that?! And why did she seem to find strapping Ashley into it so normal? Ashley stayed in silence, sucking away at her thumb, as Yazmin drove her through the city, not knowing what to expect. She certainly didn't think that, when they came to a stop, and Yazmin let her out, that they'd be at the college.

A little festival was set up in the quad, with bobbing for apples, a table with pumpkins to decorate, face painting, and lots of stops for kids to fill up their trick or treat buckets. It was definitely for children, probably some kind of fundraiser thing.... But Yazmin appeared convinced it was perfect for Ashley.

"What do you want your face painted like?" she asked, leading Ashley to the entrance. "A butterfly, maybe? Or do you want whiskers, like a kitty, or..."

"Hey, there," a familiar voice interrupted her. Ashley sucked harder and harder on her thumb, face firmly down on her feet, praying that Deon wouldn't recognize her. "You need a bucket?"

"Of course!" Yazmin reached into the diaper bag, taking out the money Ashley's mother had given her for admission. "This little lady needs lots of candy!"

"And I'm sure she'll get it, cute as she is," Deon chuckled. "Have fun!" They were walking away, Ashley thinking she'd made it, when he spoke up again. "Hey," he called. Yazmin turned, Ashley ducking her head again. "We're actually having a big party after this, if maybe you'd want to come."

Ashley's eyebrows raised; he must know the truth, that this was only a costume. Maybe this wasn't as bad as she'd thought... Perhaps she could salvage it after all!

"Sure thing," Yazmin giggled. "I'll get this little one to bed, and then put on my own costume and head back."

"Can't wait to see it," he grinned.

Of course, Ashley thought as she was led off to get her face painted. Why would he have been talking to her? It was pretty clear that the truth was, in fact, that this was far more than a costume... She could only hope that, by the time she got taken back to her apartment for the night, there were still a few big girl panties left, that they hadn't all been replaced by diapers, that there was still some hope that things could go back to normal... But she had a bad feeling, as Yazmin gave her diaper a pat, making her realize it was soggy again already, that it was already far too late for that.
