Patreon's New Fees (Patreon)

Supposedly, Patreon was going to send you all an e-mail about this, and there's a good chance you've seen it around the Internet even if you didn't see or read that, but, just in case, I wanted to make a post about it just to make sure everyone knows what's going on.

Patreon is changing the way that credit card processing fees work... Before, they would take them out of whatever was pledged, but now (effective December 18th for new subscribers and January 1st for existing ones) they'll be adding those fees on to your pledge. So, now, you're going to be getting charged a little more for your pledges. The new totals should be:

$1 - $1.38

$5 - $5.50

$10 - $10.64

$20 - $20.93

$50 - $51.80

I'm sure this is a much bigger problem for people who charge per post, since the fee would be added to each individual transaction, instead of once per month, but I understand that this is more than you initially agreed to pay, and I apologize for that.  Unfortunately, I have no option to use the old system, which had worked perfectly fine for me before.  

In case you haven't heard about this elsewhere, the general consensus is that everyone hates it, for good reason. I'm hoping that means Patreon will rethink this before it goes into effect, but I have no guarantee that will happen. I've looked around to see if there are any alternative sites that might work, but haven't found anything. For right now, all I can do is update my tier descriptions, to make sure everyone knows how much they'll actually be paying, and hope for the best. If you feel you can't continue to subscribe, I totally understand, and thank you for however long you have stuck around.
