I animated this too: 

But it looks really bad, so I'm embarrassed to post it. 

Turns out, the hard part about animating in Blender is that certain models lag really badly when you try to move them, or watch their animation, especially in Cycles. I don't think there is a work-around. 

Basically, I'll just have to keep doing test-renders of the whole animation to make sure it looks ok.
