In the year 2001, Jay-Z released a song that would change hip hop and begin a new sound for the 2000s, giving Jay the biggest album of his career up to that point, and serving as a breakthrough for multiple producers - there was just one problem. The producer had already sold the beat to someone else.

Today we’re talking about the Jay-Z song “Izzo” (H.O.V.A.), what it meant for his career, breaking down how the young producer Kanye West made this beat and helped define a new sound for a new millennium, and who he sold this beat to first, actually there are a few issues there.

Got a dopamine hit when u said you'd be focusing not on lyrics but on production. That's what I'm here for. I'm a-ok with you applying that to all subject matter. (Maybe revisit TPAB with this focus? 🤷‍♂️🙏♥️)

Man, I need to learn how to load samples into the 4x4 pads of my Keylab mkll 61. That is some cool stuff you're doing in the Push, Mr. Diggs! Love the J-5; damn didn't know "Want you..." was circa '69, when I was 4 years old ❤️.
