Rookie Hunters are generally paired up with a more experienced C-ranker or other senior individual with knowledge about the profession such as a Caravaneer or Surveyor. Once they've proven their basic competence the D-ranker is free to either stay with their mentor (if the mentor agrees to) or strike out to partner up with other D-rankers.
