Feb 15 Storm Chase? - Movie Poster for "Supercell" (Patreon)
Content
I'm currently still sitting on the fence for either bailing on my scheduled obligation this evening and chasing what appears to be low chances of daytime photogenic tornado opportunity near Dallas.
The higher tornado threat appears to be near the MS River well after dark.
TONIGHT, film Director Jamie Winterstern is flying into Houston from L.A. to meet up with me and discuss his new film "Supercell" for a Youtube video on my channel. We aim to show sneak peeks and how he used my real footage of storms rather than CGI them. He'll be here until Saturday and was warned well in advance that "good tornado potential" could foil our plans. Not sure tonight qualifies as "good," but there is a chance.
Deep diggers can almost always find a decent hodograph. Here's one near Paris Texas at 7PM.
If dew points can reach 60, I like the target north of DFW (Dallas / Ft Worth). Storms should be able to ventilate in the high shear (not be so rainy near the base) making them photogenic versions of whatever mode they are. I'm factoring in that storms here might become undercut with cold air as the front surges East.
The HRRR has been consistently resolving a couple line embedded supercells along the red river while the NAM 3K is currently saying don't waste your gas.
NEW "SUPERCELL" MOVIE POSTER
The tornado here came from one of my 2016 Katy-Winnewood EF4 shots. Just between us, the director wanted something more realistic, however he was overruled by marketing and executives. Perhaps the right call in today's atmosphere of nuclear saturation and over contrasting of liked storms images. What are your honest thoughts?
