Robb Stark has wedded and bedded Margaery, and with that bedding the Tyrells and their followers are now his. But with Stannis bolstering his forces with many of those who formerly followed Renly and preparing to assault King's Landing, how does Robb react?

Note that any/all of these options would likely include some level of Robb/Margaery smuttiness.

Wait in Bitterbridge with Margaery and the Tyrell host

There's no sense in being reckless. Robb chooses to wait at Bitterbridge with a considerable Tyrell host, and thousands more waiting in the wings at Highgarden under his new goodfather Lord Mace. Stannis is welcome to assault King's Landing, and with the Blackfish and Robb's Northern army preventing Tywin from offering any relief, the capital is likely Stannis' for the taking. But whether he takes the capital or the Lannisters hold onto it, the victor is sure to suffer losses, and that will improve Robb's future chances.

This does leave it up to the Blackfish to keep Tywin in check, and it's possible some of Robb's men might be impatient to enter the fighting. His mother is also worried about Sansa and Arya being trapped in King's Landing when Stannis makes his assault. Robb is worried for his sisters as well, but they will be in danger no matter which army takes the fighting to King's Landing. Robb will follow Renly's example, exercise patience and allow his enemies to weaken each other.

Ride for King's Landing immediately

Robb set out from Winterfell intending to march on King's Landing, and now he finally has the opportunity to do so. He will waste no more time, not even to wait for the Blackfish and Theon to bring the Northern army to join them; he will take the Tyrell army to King's Landing with haste. It's highly likely that his path will cross with Stannis' before he gets there, but that is of little consequence. If anyone is going to march on King's Landing and see to it that Joffrey pays for his crimes, it's the son of Lord Eddard Stark.

Crush Lord Tywin and the Lannister host

Stannis may have his eye on Joffrey's throne, but it's Tywin Lannister who is the real threat. The Blackfish and the Northmen are harrying the Lannisters, but if Robb brings the might of the Tyrells into the fight as well, they can do much more. If the newly combined might of the North and the Reach can slay the lion, they can then turn their full attention to King's Landing and march on whoever happens to hold it by then.

As before, this is just a look ahead before the poll actually goes up for voting on the 1st of the month, and nothing is final or locked in until then. This is what I've come up with so far, but if you see other potential options regarding what decision Robb could make now, or you see any problems with any of the existing ones/have suggestions on how they could be improved or whatever, I absolutely want to hear any/all of it. If you’ve got anything you want to say, by all means you can comment here or send me a message privately if you would prefer.

Darkarus

Robb now has a second commander who can truly lead an offensive. He could have Tarly take around 50 to 60 percent of the Tyrell host into the Westernlands while he commands the other 40 to 50 percent as a way to bolster his force of Rivermen and Northerners and lead the trap he planned that Edmund screwed up in canon

Sorry; I'm not great at conceptualizing troop movements. Can you give me more info on where the respective forces led by Randyll and Robb would be going/what each would be doing?

Darkarus

Sure so in the books Robb takes the bulk of his mounted troops into the Westernlands to raid and pillage the Lannisters heartland. At the same time expecting Tywin to come west to relieve the homelands of his bannermen he plotted an ambush along a river hoping to destroy the Tywin's army in the field. The problem Robb had was he couldn't be in two places at once. In this reality he has another top tier commander in Lord Tarly who can take the bulk of the Tyrell host north from the Reach into the Westernlands to pressure Tywin. At the same time Robb can take a big chunk of the rest of the Tyrell host to reinforce his own army to plot the ambush half of the canon plan. Does that help? When I am done with work today I can try and find a map and show you visually if that would help.

I'm using book canon. Armies: Northern Horse (Himself) [Riverrun?/Robb] 10k Northern Foot (Bolton) [around Harrenhal] 15k Riverlanders (Edmure) [dispersed hunting Lannisters in the Riverlands] 20-25k Tyrell Vanguard (Tarly?) [Bitterbridge] 20-25k Tyrell MainForce (Mace) [Highgarden] 50-60k Redwyne Fleet (Redwyne) [Arbor] North probably has some reserves, but it is unclear how the political structure is in Winterfell. Enemies: Tywin [Harrenhal] 20-25k Stafford Lannister [Oxcross] 10-15k Cersei/Tyrion [King’s Landing] 10k Stannis [Dragonstone/Stormlands] 15-20k Royal Fleet [Dragonstone] IronFleet (Victarion) [Moat Caitlin] 10k Ironborn (Asha Greyjoy) [Deepwood Motte] 5k Wildlings (Mance) [Dispersed behind the Wall] Dany somewhere in Essos White Walkers somewhere in the North Taking out Tywin is nice, but pretty pointless, because Tywin is isolated and will run into issues wherever he goes. Taking out Staffard in Oxcross-style would be nice, but considering the dispersal of his forces pretty unrealistic. The issue with Stannis is, Robb just has one fleet and using it against the Ironborn is more important, considering his issues in the North, so take out Stannis you need to get him on Land, but he just doesn't have that many men and if all three of his opponents get him, he is in a problematic position. Stannis and King’s Landing are the only worthwhile strategic goals, but it is the riskiest option. Issue is, Tywin isnt as pressured about the Westerlands, with Robb in the Reach.

The main Tyrell host it is at Bitterbridge, I think.

With Darkarus here... splitting your forces and sending Tarly to attack Tywin (while you go for KL) makes most sense. Mind you wasn't Stannis camped outside Storm's End for a bit because Renly's castellan refused to give up the castle? If Stannis is still there, Robb could always go back and attack his forces there.

mayorhaggar

Yeah, that helps! Basically in this scenario he's leaving King's Landing/Stannis be for the time being and doing something similar to what he tried to do in CoK, only he has the strength of the Tyrells with him, and Randyll there to lead the Westernlands raiding while Robb himself prepares the ambush.

mayorhaggar

If I understood Darkarus correctly, they were basically saying that the split army led by Robb and Randyll respectively would both be focused on dealing with Tywin (Randyll doing the raiding, Robb springing the ambush.) I believe that would make this a separate option, wherein Randyll and that force joins the Riverlands and the Northmen in dealing with Tywin while Robb takes the rest to King's Landing? I was sort of operating under the assumption that the business at Storm's End would be concluded in the time that it took to communicate back and forth between Bitterbridge and Storm's End to arrange things with Mace, hastily conduct the wedding, etc, but maybe the castellan held out longer than I thought? Or we could just toy with canon there and make it so. Robb leading an assault on Stannis as he's camped outside of Storm's End could be an intriguing option to offer.

Yeah, you're right. Think I misread the first sentence of his post.
