I remember when I first watched these last few episodes. Ginjo's betrayal surprised me and seeing Ichigo suffer made me really feel for him and appreciate this arc. When Rukia appeared behind Ichigo I was so happy and when the rest of the Gotei arrived I was so hyped which then doubled when Ichigo started flexing his strength. It was freaking awesome. Anyway, you noticed that Ichigo's new form has the same X markings that substitute shinigami badge had and they are related. Ichigo's fullbring was centred on his shinigami badge but that power was taken away by Ginjo. Then Ichigo regained his shinigami powers and they combined with the fullbring spritual energy he was left with which resulted in this new "fullbring shinigami" form he now has with the Xs representing this combination. Ginjo even mentions that Ichigo's abilities increased due to his fullbring. Also, I love how you always predict the twists but are still surprised because of how well they are executed. Kubo does them really well. Adding to this, Kubo has mentioned that he creates these moments by first thinking of a shot/panel that is looks cool (eg Ginjo's heavily shaded face after his betrayal or Ichigo's bankai reveal against Byakuya) and then builds around that. He basically thinks of the payoff and then develops the build up. You also mentioned how Kubo uses subtlety really well and I think you're on point with this, even with characters with very little screentime, you can interpret a lot from their backstory, dialogue and facial expressions, this extends to powers and names too where it's mentioned that powers are a representation of the person's inner self. He also hints at a lot of things in the kanji of what he names (characters, powers etc), an example is Getsuga Tensho means "Moon fang Heaven Piercer" and as you saw Ichigo literally split the sky, and at one point the blade covered half of the moon. I yap almost as much you but that's because we both love the series so much :)

You're so right about the twists though - I know I don't always get them right and stuff like that or maybe we call out part of it, but they're done in such a way that is just so cool to see all the blocks fall into place and sometimes...sometimes they're just so out of left field but still make so much sense.
