Friedrich der Große (Patreon)

Here it is, the finished drawing of Friedrich. This took me a really long time and I cant say it lived up to my initial expectations, but Im still happy with it overall especially considering the level of detail.

I actually had to trim down the outfit a bit sadly, because the whole thing just wouldnt fit, but I think this worked out anyway. And when I started coloring I was actually still unsure on whether I wanted her to be wearing stockings or just be bare legged, but after switching the background and colors around this turned out to be the best option, and of course it fits the original design more accurately.

Speaking of which, I went through 3 completely different versions of the outdoors background because I was having such a hard time settling on the general color theme I wanted. Ive been playing more with contrasting colors lately but for this one I decided to go with complementing ones, so everything has a warm tone, with an autumn feel to it.

It was pretty tricky to make her stand out from the background though, which is why I dislike it when there is TOO much detail... It just becomes hard to focus on anything. I really like how things worked out composition wise though with her pale skin contrasting against the darker indoors area (and outfit), while the legs in the stockings contrast against the brighter background in the distance.

Anyway not much else to say, I love her design so this was fun to do, although since it took so long I was already getting bored by the end. 

There will definitely be more Azur Lane characters in the future, probably commissioned even, but I might have my own that I want to draw like this one... and the same goes for Arknights or Fate/Grand Order (I dont even care about those games, I just like the character designs lol).
