So most of us run aftermarket fancy iron sights on our pistols. The type that glow in the dark. When I pick up my pistol with these sights in the dark of my bedroom; I see the sights perfectly clear. I can level the weapon nd I believe that I have a true sight picture, but cannot really be 100% sure because it is dark in the room. Assuming that I do not add a light, making the fancy iron sights less important; my question is; are there any special techniques etc. one should adopt in order to gain maximum effect relying of glowing iron sights in the dark without the aid of a light?

Hey James, great question. Night sights are great as you know I use them from our days out on the range training together. They are not a substitute for light though. You will always need some sort of ambient light or direct light to properly identify your threat. I hear a lot of trainers out there putting students through a scenario shooting with their eyes closed to simulate shooting in a dark hall way at night. This is one of the most detrimental drills I’ve heard of. If you can not properly ID your threat, you should not engage. My example would be what if that “threat” wasn’t a threat, but was a child, spouse, etc... Hope this helps.
