Hiya! I have ADHD and I'm Autistic. It took months in therapy for me to be open to either of those possibilities. But, what I learned from the Neurodivergent community is that there's no gatekeeping. Whether you're officially diagnosed or self diagnosed, if the tools and suggestions for ADHD help you, that's great! All brains are different and no one deserves to struggle. Whatever works best for you is valid and worth it! I don't know if you guys have the same issue, but this is something I've been working on lately that's helped me prioritize, too. I finally realize I have a future and that the future matters just as much as the present. My coping mechanism was always finding whatever would make me feel better in that moment. "I want Taco Bell. I know I'm going to regret it and feel sick, but that's Future Linsey's🦸🏻‍♀️problem. Me want Taco Bell now!" Then after stuffing my gullet, I'd strap in for the Shame Spiral 🎢 <-- that's an awful rollercoaster emoji. But I've recently realized, positive changes aren't for the benefit of the present; they're mindful and intentional choices made for a better future. I sound like a dang guru, but it's tru...ru. And it massively sucks lol, but thinking about it has helped me. If I already know I'm going to regret doing the thing in the future, I don't do the thing... Well, I REALLY try not to do the thing (I spent $50 on unnecessary craft supplies yesterday instead of $200. It's a work in progress). And adversely, if I know I'm going to regret NOT doing the thing in the future, I do the thing (like taking my dog for a walk when it's nice out, or the damn Jacob Collier concert I wanted to go to in June, but people convinced me not to. 😭 I wish I would've gone! Which is why I'm going to the Big Grande Chicago show!) Ugh, I'm sorry! I always write a book because we seem to be working through some similar things around the same time and it's fun to talk about, even if the "talking" is just me in the comment section void lol Plus, I'll probably delete all of this later 😎✌️ Byeeeee ❤️
