Hallo and Lila were notorious in our neighborhood for their insatiable sweet tooth. I remember the Halloween they decided to take their candy cravings to the next level.

Dressed as a duo of mischievous witches, they set out, plastic pumpkins in hand, on a mission to conquer every house on the block. Hallo was the older sister, boasting a hat slightly crooked, while Lila, the younger one, sported a lopsided cape. The pair giggled and cackled their way from door to door, filling their sacks with sugary treasures.

But fate had a sneaky trick up its sleeve that night. The sisters, in their candy-induced excitement, lost track of their loot. Unbeknownst to them, while exchanging jokes and laughs, they mistakenly cracked their pumpkin buckets.

After an eventful evening of "trick or treat," they found themselves back home, eagerly eager to count and relish their spoils. That's when the mix-up was discovered—two pumpkins, but each containing only one big hole!

The initial shock turned into laughter as they realized what had happened. Hallo looked at her lone candy, a snickerdoodle bar, and Lila at her solitary jawbreaker. Without a moment's hesitation, they both burst into laughter at the absurdity of the situation.

"Here," said Hallo, holding out her snickerdoodle bar. "I guess this one's yours, but I've been eyeing that jawbreaker all night!"

Lila's eyes widened. "Seriously? I thought you'd never ask!" She swapped her jawbreaker for the snickerdoodle with a mischievous grin.

And so, the sisters sat open-legged on the floor, giggling and happily munching on each other's hard-earned treats. The snickerdoodle was devoured with relish by Lila, and the jawbreaker was licked and sucked on by Hallo until her tongue turned various colors.

"Who knew mixing up candies could be this much fun?" Hallo chuckled.

The night ended with the two of them, faces smeared with chocolate and sugar, laughing until their stomachs ached. It was the Halloween they'd never forget—not because of the candy haul, but because of the hilarious mix-up that led to swapping treats and endless laughter.

From that day forward, they made it a tradition to exchange one candy each Halloween, a sweet reminder of the Halloween night they ate each other's treats and filled the air with laughter.
