Hello Adventurers! I’ve just finished our next map, a Meteor Crater with a strange object at its centre. Maybe it's just crashed or maybe it's been here a while and has been causing havoc in the local region. There wasn’t much research for this one, it's a hole with a rock in it, BUT there is so much potential for fun with this one! Is this a rock from another plane? Is it a piece of some evil god’s magical prison and what does that mean? The creatures encountered here are going to be wild!

Next Maps

I’ll be working on the Hermits Retreat next and then the rather fun Dire Beaver Dam/Lodge later in the month.

  • Hermits Retreat
A small lonely shack/cottage on the edge of a windswept cliff. The perfect place to find someone hiding out in the wilderness.
  • Dire Beaver Dam/Lodge
Imagine a huge beaver dam blocking a river. It's a great place to cross but oh no! Giant beavers! And they are out for blood! They could make for a great wilderness encounter.

I’m not the most confident person when it comes to my art. So it really means a lot to be getting support and messages from people using my maps for their games. I honestly can’t thank you all enough. I hope those of you suffering from record temperatures or other extreme weather are managing to cope. Have a great week and as always happy adventuring!

Now let's go investigate that fallen star, I think it hit somewhere to the north… does anyone hear that? Sounds like something shouting UUUUUULLAAAAA!!! (The Bard should be playing progressive rock in the background).

Map Descriptions

A Falling Star
A burst of light brighter than a thousand stars illuminates the sky as a meteor streaks overhead. Its blazing tail leaves a fiery trail as it hurtles towards the earth. As the meteor dips below the horizon an explosion erupts, flinging earth, rock and fire into the air. The ground trembles beneath your feet.

The Crater
As you get closer you smell burnt wood and sulfur, while dust hangs in the air making it difficult to breathe. Earth, rocks and foliage have been blasted across a wide area, leaving a deep ragged crater spanning twenty feet. The interior crackles and hisses, partially obscured by smoke illuminated by the glowing object that sits at its centre.

Notes and Tips

  • 30x30 Grid Map
  • Remember this can be a meteor that has just crashed or maybe it's been here a while.
  • The interior could be superheated from the crash. It may not be comfortable to walk on the surface and if someone falls onto the ground they could suffer burns.
  • The smoke in the crater may obscure the interior. Whatever creatures have hitched a ride on the meteor could use the smoke as cover, only when they get close can they be detected.
  • Star Seeds: The meteor contains seed pods that scatter on impact, the seeds germinate when they become hot, which they are now doing on the hot ground. Each seed sprouts some kind of plant/insect monster that looks for a host to attach itself to.
  • Star Iron: There is a race to the meteor as it most likely contains Star Iron a precious metal that has magical properties. As the party reaches the edge of the crater a group of bandits can be seen approaching the meteor. They will fight the party for the rights to the meteor, but during the fight something within the meteor reveals itself.
  • Gods Home: In the celestial heavens a war rages. A piece of a god's home or prison is blown free and hurtles to earth. However, it's not empty, an angel and devil crash to earth with it, as the party arrives the two beings continue their fight.

Variants

Day/night versions of the variant maps

I've also created an empty variant so you can place other things in the centre of the crater.

I've also created a snow variant for your winter campaigns

And a desert variant for your sandy campaigns!

And how about a Spelljammer escape pod? (all three environments)
