$500 commission price. A word… (Patreon)

Okay, so I’m gonna rant a bit here. I’ve gotten a few messages about the $500 commission tier and a couple of them (not all) were a bit…irritating and disrespectful to say the least.

One, the price is literally listed on the tier so when I mention the price, I shouldn’t be getting a complaint about it when the info and pricing is already out there. It’s not like Ppl are having to message me to figure out the price. It’s right there including what the commission offers. So being baffled by it doesn’t really make sense when I’ve always charged around this amount and it’s been public knowledge for almost 2 years.

Two, no, $500 is a reasonable amount considering I’m only accepting ONE a month unlike accepting 3-5 or so $400 commissions at once like I used to do. I shouldn’t have to explain and defend basic supply and demand concepts. It’s a waste of everyone’s time. And I’m literally offering a physical poster (18”x24” so it’s far from small) of the commission if the client so chooses. Not a lot of digital artists even do that. I do that bc I want ppl to gain as much value from it as possible. But of course, there are ppl out there that think digital art is never worth spending that much on. It’s one thing to not have the money to spend on it and respectfully choosing to pass up on it, I get that 100%. But it’s another to talk down on and shame an artist for their prices bc you don’t have the money to spend on it. That’s not the artist’s problem. Art is a luxury and artists don’t have to low ball their prices for anyone or even themselves. and honestly, me charging my little $500 once every month is nothing compared to what some other artists charge that do commissions full time.

I just wanna say, please respect my prices and worth that not just me but every artist sets for themselves. What might be out of range for you doesn’t mean it’s out of range for everyone else. Trust me. I’m going on 6 years doing commissions and I’ll say that people will spend/purchase a piece however much the artist charges despite what someone else might think it’s worth.
