I've been on lots of walks lately, so this is from a photo I took after it rained. I'm learning I have no patience for details ahah, I tried to do the inks with a smaller brush, and got mad at how long it was taking to do all the hatching...
I also struggled with not making it too busy, I re-did those banks a few times to try and make it look like it had tall plants on it, but I couldnt figure out how to give that impression without making it look too hectic with dark and light tones! On...a positive note, I really enjoy how I instinctively choose colours, it comes out very fauvist sometimes and I think thats really fun. I don't like colour picking unless I'm really stuck, because it squashes my own colour instincts. (I have done a lot lot lot of colour studies tho so im pretty good at guessing now, which does make it easier to make it harmonious without picking)

You'll notice I did the colours then the lines, which feels more natural tbh than trying to make my messy paint fit within the lines XD. I mostly just use the lines for shadow, but its a bit easier than picking specific shadow colours for each area like I do in my normal painting. I'm used to pushing and pulling the shapes around to get it right vs inking them right straight away, so its kinda easier for me to just add the line definition after.

I try not to spend too long on them, since I'm aiming for a comic style- so this took about 2 hours, which isn't bad if it was a fairly big panel. (that I could...re-use) (speaking of, go and look at how Hari does it because it's very clever- Link- also read their comic, it finished just the other day and if u like trees and slow burn you'll love it)
