I've been trying to make my sketches more solid + with more thought to shadows, but every time I do, I end up wanting to ink them! So here's the inking process :P

I'm trying to get better with spot blacks, adding little areas of black to show depth, and large areas to break up the image etc! I don't think the leather works too well, it's a bit much, but you live and learn ;).
Sylvia's shirt is Boy George- an English singer who bent a lot of the gender stereotypes- I actually chose a more punk fashion for Sylvia here because the punk/new wave/new romantic fashion styles have a lot of gender freedom (I mean she might not wear the skirt outside but...the rest is pretty androgynous)
Jerry's shirt is made up, but 'butch bitch' is very her.

I'm testing out some halftone brushes here, and it's a way more satisfying (and less scary)  way of adding some shading than the block shading I was doing before!

So the plot is entirely up in the air for Sylvia & Jerry's backstory, but I love the idea of the theatre they work at- and attempt to sleep in once they get kicked out- is actually a bit of a meeting place for the queer community. They've been sleeping on old costumes and props for half a week before they find that on the evening they thought it was closed it's actually open for 'private' showings. They hear a load of noise and shuffle downstairs to find drag performers and music and more gay people than they've probably ever seen before. (yes I'm weak for found family shut up)

I'm very slowly working on some characters, there'll be more sketches in the end of the month pdf!
