Welcome to episode four: "There's No Disgrace Like Home".


This guy is a good way to ease us in to this episode chock-a-block full of absolute nobodies. Y'see, as you may remember, this episode is all about Homer being ashamed of the antics of his family's behaviour, compared to the others he sees around him. 

Side note: this is an example of how things are not figured out in season one. The Homer we know and love would not care about how people perceive his family, for better or worse, and this crisis would later more likely be pushed to Marge. But I digress.

For this to hit home, we need a lot of other families for comparison's sake. This is the first:

The father is presumably an employee at the Nuclear Power Plant, invited to Mr Burns' picnic at his home. Shortly after this interaction, Burns tells Smithers (now white!) to fire him, so for once we have a canonical reason to never see him or his family again.
