0050 - Richard (Patreon)

FIFTY CHARACTERS! Feels like a big moment, a landmark in our journey. And I can't think of anyone more appropriate for such an accomplishment than a character that you sorta recognise but have no emotional attachment to whatsoever.

For years I would get Richard and Lewis confused, so if you ever need a reminder, Richard is the one that doesn't have a lookalike. I hope that helps.

As covered before, I suspect some of these kid characters were invented to flesh things out a little, to give Bart a consistent stable of friends to bounce off of. But as the show found its footing, more unique characters like Ralph or Nelson became more prominent and outshone the Lewises and Richards of the world.

Richard is so vanilla that his Simpsons wiki article does not even have a trivia section, although I can confirm that, according to Milhouse in the season 2 episode "Bart Gets an F", Lewis did once make Richard laugh milk through his nose. So that's something.

I like his pink diamond at least.
