A full week of nobodies! Oh boy. None of the characters featured this week even appear to have comic book appearances, they are truly unique little weirdos.

First thing I noticed on my rewatch was her being voiced by Nancy Cartwright. After so many years of her Bart voice, it has become really jarring to hear Nancy's voice - not too different from Bart's - coming out of another character. Nancy and Yeardly Smith don't voice too many characters outside of Bart and Lisa, generally, presumably so their voices remain somewhat unique, but that hasn't really been established yet.

I also think this character has a very early Simpsons design aesthetic, more Klasky Csupo than I am used to. Her wide head and huge eyes, they're a little unusual and out of line with what comes later. The show is still finding it's feet, and we'll be seeing a lot of wacky character designs as we go.

That said, did you know that Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire was not the first episode made, but the eighth? The series was delayed following some dissatisfaction on how the first episode (Some Enchanted Evening) looked, and some shuffling had to be done. As a result, the Christmas episode - a time sensitive episode - became the first one to air. Why do I mention this? Because we have episodes coming later than this that look much rougher and wackier. I'm excited to draw some of those freaks.

For now, we will settle for Pay Cheque Lady.

There truly are some... interesting character designs dotted throughout season one. Really looking forward to seeing your take on them!

Oh yeah, some real freaks to come. They don’t all get lines but I’ll definitely be covering some of the stranger ones.
