That was a fun stream! I guess you don’t do the Patreon questions anymore, but I kind of have one anyway? Your Shrek video is one of my favorites. (The line “Come in… Your purpose is to be deviant” always gives me chills) I think what it and the other Dreamworks films in that “series” have to say about essentialism is truly fascinating. So… what do you think of Wreck-It Ralph? If Shrek is a response to the Disney fairytales of the 90’s, is Wreck-It Ralph not Disney’s counter-argument in that conversation? Because the movie seems to be saying that essentialism is fine, actually, and if you’re unhappy with the role society forces upon you, the problem isn’t society, it’s your ego, and in order to be happy, you simply need to accept your lot in life. Is it the anti-Shrek? A more refined Shark Tale? I guess I just find it to be kind of a depressing movie, and I’m curious if you have any thoughts on the topic!
