Greetings adventurers!

The halflings toil away perfecting their runic languages and turning touch to magic on a daily basis. It’s fascinating what they’ve managed to come up with, but I suppose with as much time as they have lying about they might as well get something done. While many of them fancy themselves master negotiators, it’s never a poor idea to have a little bit of backup to go along with it. Sometimes some smoke and mirrors can assist, at least this pipe has the smoke covered.

This item was commissioned by our good friends at Spectre Creations with the intention of it being included in their currently ongoing Kickstarter, Caliya’s Chronicle of Runes. It’s in its last 48 hours and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this amazing KS. We recommend you check it out!

Design notes from Matthew:
The fascinating thing about this design was that we needed to adhere to some rules that come along with the rune system that Spectre Creations has put together for their runes. This whole language is developed as a way to emblazon mundane items with bits of magic and change how they function. Each language has its own type of application of magic and we decided to take on the halflings who are touch focused.
We had a lot of discussion around how to flavor the item, but I came up with the idea of a limited “forget I said that” button and then all bets were off. The first part was to actually write the rune and that was an interesting challenge. Modify Memory and other similar spells exist but they’re extremely powerful. I wanted to limit the power of this and the easiest way to do that was to make it just apply to a short time frame. Additionally I wanted to make sure this wasn’t a “stop combat” thing so I had to put some provisions in about not forgetting violent actions.
The actual application of this being a pipe was a relatively risky idea as I knew halfling runes mostly operate off of touch. I wanted to take it a bit of a different way though and let the smoke do the touching. Giving advantage on the save or making the save easier in PF2E made an interesting trade off for more targets vs. worse odds.

Important Note: This is a special bonus item you're getting this month. We'll still have another release later this week at the usual time!

This was a blast getting to develop an extra little fun item for this Kickstarter. We’re so glad to be a part of it and we hope that you’ll check it out. There’s a number of wonderful creators involved and there’s only 48 hours left to back it!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
