Greetings Adventurers,

We couldn't be more excited to kick of this series! We're beginning a here with our first Drudgework creature and it's just the first of many. Over the coming months we'll be bringing you additional creatures for both 5E and PF2E in this style all with a focus on creating a cohesive creature set you could use for an adventure in your games. While the Skitterer is the first, we plan on bringing you several other Drudgework constructs including our final entry which will be the "Drudgemother", a central brain that operates these Drudgework constructs across the realm. We hope you enjoy this unique set and we also hope you enjoy the enhanced layouts we're bringing with these new creatures!

As with all of these One More Thing releases, it's exclusive to patrons. If you're not a patron and want this release, please consider supporting us here. For patrons, you'll have to grab the files from your master post (linked below) to see the stats. We hope you enjoy it.

Design notes from Matthew:
Alright I have to stop myself from rambling too far with this one because I'm extremely excited to kick off this creature set. It's been something I've wanted to do for some time to create a set of being that all work from one central creature and while that usually fits more for something like bugs, I've wanted to take that concept and turn it into something a little different. The idea that a machine could operate in this way and communicate between all of the little constructs it supports is just a terribly exciting thing to make. I fully know folks will take it and probably corrupt it and make it go mad which I'm all for.
For the actual design of this creature, we had an idea for something that could skitter around the interior of machines and trying to figure out a way to do that interestingly was a challenge. I didn't want to end up with something super basic and we always pair magic items with these so I knew I needed an evocative mechanic. That's when the idea of magnets came in. There's always a lot of metal around adventurers so the idea of weaponizing their weapons was just something I couldn't stop thinking about.
The actual design of the creature flowed together quite easily. Giving it the ability to pull things in, then repulse them felt like an extremely fun and thematic mechanic that it would be hard to forget when you ran into these guys. Also hey, who doesn't like a big metallic clamp that grapples folks? I think grapple is an underused mechanic, so it's my job to highlight it in interesting ways and I think we accomplished that here.
This is just the start though. We have some many more ideas for interesting constructs in this style and we can't wait to bring them all to you over the coming months.
