Greetings adventurers!

Those who live in the ice learn to turn to it for many things from drinkable water to protection from the elements in hand carved igloos. Some have taken it even further, using it for protection from another kind of danger. There are many dangerous animals in the icy wastes and it pays to have a shield handy. Shields are heavy and arduous in day to day activity, so what is an arctic outdoors person supposed to do? Well they can turn to the Rimewall for protection.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
The idea for this one was rather simple. I’ve always loved the idea of versatile weapons, but they are often incompatible with sword and board style gameplay. The problem of hands crops up and it makes things extremely awkward for players wanting to somehow engage with the versatile property of their weapon, while also having a shield handy. There’s some amount of game design to this to make sure you can’t deal more damage as well as have a higher AC, that said it’s my firm belief that a good magic item provides interesting solutions to problems like that.
The initial writing of this one was a bit of a mess for me. I had given the item two states and an ability to switch back and forth between them, but some additional convoluted wording about how the function worked, look it was bad. I turned to my friend Daniel (You might know him as Dagonzo from Night Owl Odysseys and Diversity Saves) and he was able to help guide me down a much better road for the item.
The little extra bonus to AC when someone sees it for the first time was a fun little addition just to give this item a bit of interest over just being a pop up shield.
Illustration notes from Fernando:
This item came about right after we had a pretty big winter storm in the east coast, this is my first time experiencing that and so I became fascinated by all the ice around me.  I looked at the street puddles turned to ice, the frozen pond, a big chunk that fell out of our rain gutters, etc.  It really informed the look of what is essentially a big chunk of ice in the shape of a shield.
The ice around me however is dirtier, dense, brown, (except the pretty clear one from the rain) so for the colors I looked more at the pretty glacial ice I’ve seen in documentaries, with beautiful hues of blue and refracted light.
For the bracer itself, I figured insulating it in fur made sense; you don’t want a big chunk of ice on your skin for a prolonged period of time, I don’t think!

I love treating magic items like problem solvers. It’s great to think of some of the more mundane issues that a character can run into and think of magic items like inventions to get around them. The best part is, since they’re magic, I don’t have to deal with the concepts of reality. It’s like the best part of being an engineer without the boring real world stuff.
