The opulence of this thing is a little much for my taste, but perhaps the more gaudy among us will enjoy the opulence weaved into the core of this mighty greataxe. Hopefully someone out there will use this responsibly. We wouldn’t want something this stunning to fall into the hands of a raging tyrant…

Barbarian theming is always very naturalistic and I have to say that doesn’t always suit what I’d like to do with them. I think there’s a lot of fun space for barbarians that don’t fit in with that naturalistic trope and offer them something a little different. That was my starting place for this axe. I wanted to give options for barbarians that didn’t always fit that standard role.

Another issue I’ve seen is that some barbarian subclasses get a bad wrap for not having much available to them in the arena of teamplay. They’re straightforward attackers who go out of their way to be in the fray of battle and must keep hitting to maintain their rage. I fully get that that’s a necessity of the class and their playstyle, but I wanted to offer them something that was a little more team oriented.

Ultimately, the movement when you first call your loyal subjects is one of the more powerful parts of this. I know others will look at the AC bonus or the damage reduction and say that is more powerful, and in some circumstances it is, but being able to control the battlefield is something that’s always interesting to me and this axe allows you to do that, as a barbarian of all things!

I dearly hope that this item gives you the opportunity to plop something slightly different into the hands of your raging barbarians out there. I would love to see one that gets a bit drunk with the power of having subjects and explore what that might do with them. It’s about time we did something for our barbarian friends.
