Greetings adventurers!

The superstitions of fishermen are something to be admired. I find it kind of endearing to think of them going through their little routines that they think will guarantee their catch. Whether it’s wearing their socks inside out or having the right tea in the morning before heading out on the boat, thinking that you have any influence on random chance is an interesting idea. I’m lucky in that my clientele (adventurers) don’t have any of those silly superstitions whatsoever! They just need the right tool for the job.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Sometimes you’re out in the dungeon and you just think “man I have the gold but don’t want to lug ourselves back to town to get the thing I need” and I think that’s a design problem that could be overcome by some fun magic items. Sure you might say that the adventurers need to come prepared, but realistically, there’s no way they’re going to know what they need before they come across the obstacle and sometimes they might even have a really novel solution with an item that you want to allow. That was the thing I wanted to solve with this item.

For both versions, this is actually a really straightforward implementation. Most of the item is flavor text to tell you how it works and get you in the mindset of how this thing functions. We leaned on the idea of a vending machine as it’s a familiar item to a modern day person, but something that could be mystified to an adventuring party. I think there’s something to be said for leaning on modern knowledge and technology as “magic” in your settings.

The actual limits on this come from the 8 per day text essentially making it so they can’t just keep buying rope forever (that would slow down the game) and the idea that the GM has final say in items available. This is a backstop to prevent folks from gaming the system and lets GMs maintain some control over things. I would give this one out with caution though as players will find weird ways to use it. I like that kind of chaos though!

I’m back from my vacation now and this weekend we’re attending PaizoCon! I’ll have a post with more information about that tomorrow, but we’re so excited to be a part of that event again and in more capacity this time. Hopefully you enjoy this item and next week we’ll be bringing you another creature and item pairing!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
