Hello Supporters!

Today I have an early access video for you in which I’ll show you how to install legacy versions of Daz Studio without Install Manager. This is useful if your existing scene files don’t render properly anymore with an updated version and you’re in the middle of a project, or you’d like to refine existing scenes without a major re-work.

Old installer files are ZIPs with a slightly convoluted folder structure, but once unZIPped you can use them like portable software and launch them from any folder of your choice (including USB sticks and external drives).

What makes this slightly awkward is the fact that Daz don’t provide downloads to older versions of their software. However, before updating to a new version, Install Manager saves the installer to a directory so you can copy it from there and keep it so that you can go back to an older version should the need arise.

I’m not sure how legal it is to distribute these old installers, but if you keep it under your hat and don’t tell anyone, feel free to use these links to obtain the last three versions that I’ve saved before every update:

This is the first video for which I’m trying out a new feature that allows YouTube supporters to watch the video directly on YouTube before it goes live to the public. Apparently the video will switch visibility automatically, but I haven’t tested this out. It’ll be a live surprise 😄

Rest assured, the Vimeo link above has the same video.

Have a great week 👋

Jay The question of getting installation files has been asked many times over the years in the DAZ3D forums - usually after a new release comes out, users install it, and then want to go back to the earlier version. Richard Haseltine has repeatedly said that it is not legal for users to share the installation files. He and other users have advised, though, like you, to either run the newest Beta version first or to save the older version's install files when initially installed. Like you, I save the files of any software product that I buy online. I still have the Daz Studio 2.3 installation files that I downloaded in 2009 when I first got started with Daz Studio.

Thanks for letting me know Joe, I had suspected as much about the legality of sharing those files. I'll leave them here for now as this is a "closed group of friends" and not a public place ;-)
