Prorgess on Digital Jay (Iteration 4) (Patreon)

Hello Supporters 👋
I've made some progress on Digital Jay, here's "Iteration 4" as I'd like to call him. Previous conversions featured a terrible hunch and all kinds of issues, but this one behaves well in Unreal Engine. The hunch was happening because the figure was rotated a little on the Z axis before rigging (left/right when viewed from the front), something that can creep in when wrapping scanned humans onto symmetric geometry.
Jay v4 is based on Genesis 8.1, after previous Genesis 9 attempts failed due to eye placement issues, but I've since learnt a few tricks from Deviant that may alleviate them in future versions. Deviant also showed me how to replace wonky geometry and I'll put that into practice on Iteration 5 this afternoon.
Textures still need work, and it's on my list of things to take care of today (aside from the odd round of No Man's Sky, which I'm thoroughly enjoying).
In other news, Unreal Engine 5.3 has been officially released yesterday. I've had the preview since it came out and was worried that the Edit Pose button in the retargeter was missing. I put this down to a pre-release bug, but it's also missing in the final release.
Thankfully, and after poking around in a panic, I've found it: EPIC thought it would be a great idea to hide it in the menu at the top, in a somewhat unrelated section, and in something that doesn't actually look like a drop-down menu. Well done EPIC! They love making "improvements" that nobody asked for, while leaving bugs unfixed that should have been taken care of 10 years ago. I'll mention this "feature" in an upcoming video, perhaps in passing.
On this note, twist bones with G8 are now fixed in the Daz to Unreal bridge, and the patch should be rolling out through Install Manager this week (thanks, Daniel and David!)
My plan is to record more Daz to Unreal shorts (hopefully today) and a couple about Wrap, specifically how to use a head scan and turn it into a full Genesis body, and another one about transferring clothing. I'll get those into your hands as soon as I've edited them.
Have a great weekend, and perhaps I'll see you Saturday/Sunday on YouTube 🚀
