A couple of things going on here, so bear with me while I explain more about this post, and this video.

I've ordered a new GoPro camera for some upcoming in-person interviews I'd like to shoot. I'll go into more detail on that in a separate post very soon. I had my eye on the new HERO 8 camera with extremely good video stabilisation, but thought that $400 is borderline extortion. Lucky for me, GoPro have a deal in that I could send them any old digital camera if its retail price was in excess of $100. That would certainly sweeten the deal.

I remember having this old Casio camera that would fit the bill, having been classed High-Tech back in 2008, when I bought it for about $250 plus tax in the US. To my surprise it was still working great, and I had some good times with it. Rather than sending it away unloved, I made a little retrospective video about it - and this is it. I hope you enjoy it, despite the fact that I thought this camera was from 2006 when I shot it. I've corrected that mistake with text overlays, let me know what you think of them. It'll go live on YouTube sometime next week, so this is an ad-free early access perk for y'all.

Speaking of ad-free things, Patreon have recently made it possible to share private Vimeo videos here. It's the first time I'm trying this out, so this video is set to private (or rather "people with a private link") on Vimeo and if I understand correctly, it should still show up for you here. Let me know if that is in fact the case, because it would mean that I can share more early access videos with you like this, and you won't be troubled by those ghastly YouTube ads.

One final note: this video is the first one I've edited with the latest version of Adobe Premiere. I've been using my outdated CS5.5 version on my Mac for years, desperately trying to avoid paying their steep $52 per month asking price. But the Mac hardware is not capable of doing what I want to do going forward, and my Windows hardware is, but I my old version of Premiere doesn't work on Windows.... sigh, first world problems, endured for the good of a new project. But I digress.

Premiere 2020 works great on my Windows machine though, and I had a blast using it. I felt very much at home and love the new features. I've been using Premiere for 20 years now, but haven't seen an updated version in 10 of those.

So there you go, that's all I have for today. Enjoy the little trip down memory lane of digital photography, and thank you so much for making it possible for me to be creative with tools I could otherwise not afford to buy.

Remembering the Casio EXILIM EX-Z100 - High-Tech from 2006

I bought this pocket camera back in 2006, the EXILIM EX Z-100. It was Casio's top-of-the-line smart camera, super slim and sexy, and I used to love it back...
